Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

i have recently got a client who's looking to build a school management system .
the system will cover these services provided as below :
-Student Register & payment fees online ( its not automatic payment ) kind of posting inputs to fields for invoice ref etc.
-School class’s can be recorded and uploaded to each student generally / individually .
-Teachers will be able to insert the class schedule for students online
-Teachers will be able to attach homework’s for students in general / individually.
    -Submitting home work answers online
-Parents will be able to see their kids remarks / marks and read notes online.
-Submitting general notes in notification dash bored ( smart dashboard ) online .
-Bus & transportation registrations and payment fees online including
-Google map for each student ( can be used to navigate through smart tablet to student home )
-Human Resource integration for all school staff ( no payroll included )
-Admin login to manage all system transaction
    -Email notification for each process
-Log file for all transactions in system
-Sending / following up complaint from parents to school online
    -Training for staff
-Hardware & server win 2012 configuration & establishment.
    -Protections & encryption against hackers
-Ability for students to chat with each other
    -Homework copy rights detection
-Dashboard for admin to control over all data
    -Reporting & charts

This project is splitted into 2 phases , the phase 1 is a static website ( where we going to display static text ) and probably data from mysql database
going to use HTML5 , jquery , java to provide an outstanding look for the website .

phase 2 is the school management system along with the services above .

i am insisting to make this system in alpha anywhere , you guys think its achievable or not using alpha anywhere ?
expected online users at same time is 800 users.
lot of people told me to not go with alpha but i want to do it with alpha i have done loads of system using alpha and i trust it .
    tell me your opinion ,
if you say yes go with alpha please tell me why .
if you say no don't go with alpha please explain why .

if you have done a school management system please post a demo if you got one .

    thanks all

    Hi Ahmed,

Before starting this project I will design very carefully the database. Check up this tool for database design. A lot of projects fail just because of bad database design. You can have 800 users but in web site technology we care to know how many con current users at any given time. You may need to use multiple web servers and set it up for load balance. In my Avis Car Rental project there are 30 locations and 5 to 6 users at any location, but not all of them logging in at the same time. You will need to run a need analysis for this kind project before making any move. Alpha Anywhere is a great product for this kind of project, and the web server with IIS plug in just got much better.

Do you mean javascript/JS? Because java is a whole language platform.

        Javascript , Jquery
using it just to display data that will be entered from phase 2 the managment system.
other than that will be static text about the school , pictures , locations , contacts & static text information .

Hey , i wrote above that 800 users will be online at same time .

and about database design , you are 100% right but in my case , i will be very dynamic i have 10 years experience in database language & languages , i am assuming i can resolve any issue related to data
that's because i am designing the tables & fields in a way that can be adjusted to fix any mistake without affecting the data in the future .
i have already started , my only concern is the design .

i will post in this thread my work every 2 weeks to show you the whole process

also , i am thinking that alpha server cannot handle 100 users at same time online .
thats why i will use IIS .

          thanks alot

Most sql databases can handle any number of concurrent users. The problems com in the hardware and servers that it resides on and then the application capabilities.

Get enough space, hardware speed and bandwidth first.

Now it is up to the software to handle it. That includes all layers needed to serve it up as well.

I have all the bandwidth needed for anything and plenty of ssd space at my disposal and running on Linux(for my use), but some applications just do not work as well as others. Some absolutely fly with the exact same databases. So, it comes down to testing what is or is not going to work when 30 - 100 - 1000 people are all doing something at the same time. The other way is asking advice of non-self serving and knowledgeable people.

I did do a school project a long time ago for one school and it only included grades and student records, for each of 210 classes of about 28 each. It was desktop, so does not really count for your scenario. There was no parent interaction or students chatting or anything like that, but it was amazing the information buildup each year in the tables. At the first of each year, I could have around 100 people signed in and working at one time.

thanks for all this information ,
i use my own logic to speed up the database loading in browsers ,
for example , if you have a grid that contains a view in mysql ,
the view have about 20 joined table together , i think u will go like ( OMG , that's a crazy and going to be super slow ) , i have developed a way
that allows me to load from such a view in less than 0.5 sec ,

i always have a way to trick the computer to get what i want :)

but thanks alot for all this tips and advice , i am doing this by alpha , and i will not host it online or in a clouding service , as i will lose very important thing if i host it online ,
which is accessing the application locally within school network , that's will allow the admin staff to update students and they and teachers are the most ones who gonna log to this system unlike students , they are just logging either to pay or to find a home work ....for students i will get public IP dedicated and billeave me
when the public ip comes from same city .. its much different that visiting a public ip hosted in US ....

i think i will be fine with alpha also if this is worked in alpha .. i will keep reselling this app to schools over and over :) just buy license and setup in server
              sounds good eh ?

i already finished the teachers registration and admin side ...
              you know what ?
i will post a demo link here when i finish so you guys can advice me what things i can add .

thanks again Dave for all your advice .
