executeThisThenThat with List Control

I have a list with a detail page in a separate panel card. I want a button on the detail page that will delete the row from the list, then save it to the database, set the panel to the list view and refresh the list. I think I need all those steps but maybe not. I won't know until I get through the errors.

Because the first step (the lObj.deleteRow() step) automatically gives a "are you sure you want to delete" I cannot use Timeout(s) to delay the other steps. You have no way of knowing how fast the person will click it.

Here is my code..

I've finally gotten it to no longer give me javascript errors, but the executeThisThenThat is firing the next step before I click OK to delete.

Any ideas? If i could disable the "ok to delete" it might work with an actual alert box, but I'm not sure how to do that.

The List .deleteRow() method can take an object of options. One of those options is "prompt" set to true (prompt) or false (no prompt).

ops.prompt = false;
var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
lObj.deleteRow(ops);

Probably a total newb question but when you dim a variable as var ops = {};

That is just making it an empty object? You can add any property to it just by using the set operator =?

Then getControl knows to grab properties from the object by name?

Where would I lookup lists of options for various methods?

Hi Dan,

Yes... that var sets up as an empty object to which you can then assign properties and values to those properties...as you've written.

The .getControl() methods has nothing to do with this object. The object was simply set up before the .getControl... but it could just as easily be set up after the .getControl.

The opt object, in this case, is a parameter fed into the .deleteRow() method. The .deleteRow method knows to check for a parameter object. If a parameter object is not found then the default "prompt for delete" is used.

I'm not sure where I found the info about the optional parameter... it was some time ago. It may be documented somewhere, but I'm not sure where.
