Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Charles.
It can be done. Just not that easy.
Right now, most webb apps are called by URL from a web Site menu Item or a clickable button.

Joomla and Wordpress can call some apps within their own site where they show as a page as opposed to an outside entity.
A few(and growing) platforms are beginning to delve into what I call "merging" with other well know site services. Meaning Joomla and Wordpress.
I can pull a "phpbb" bulletin board into a joomla website. Why not an alpha web app?

Outstanding work for sure and a VAST improvement over the stock Alpha styles.

I am interested and definitely echo the earlier comments that I am "CSS-Challenged" and would prefer a set of style sheets that include UX components and list controls, dropdowns, etc.

Congrats and keep us posted please!

Re: Sale of Alpha stylesheets & components

I've been wishing Alpha would improve their CSS styles for years but it doesn't look like that is even on their horizon, and the editor they provide is atrocious. It's a shame really.

That being said, Steve your styles look really great, really great! You may have a good opportunity here. I might be interested, but my concern would be how complete they are as others have noted.
Still, I'll be watching to see how this progresses.

          Agreed.

However, and not to take anything away from Steve Vosper's great work, Alpha's road map does promise both new styles and anew style editor. But, of course, we shall see...

And the Wiki was going to solve the documentation issue

I REALLY hope the new documentation system is functional and remains relevant into the future.......crossing my fingers on the new style builder to allow EASY implementation of 3rd party CSS, etc

Re: Sale of Alpha stylesheets & components

Greg I think there is no chance that you will get your wish.

"crossing my fingers on the new style builder to allow EASY implementation of 3rd party CSS, etc"

For Alpha to maintain backward compatibility and continue to allow us to use all the builders you have to buy into the Alpha paradigm. If you play with the CSS a lot you will notice that there are no Sub Themes in the grid and Tabbed UI.

There is nothing to stop us implementing 3rd party CSS but boy is it hard work.

We regularly start with a style sheet that does most of what we want and then re style it. iOS7 is 2,100 lines of CSS and 855 line of JavaScript before you add your own sub themes and classes. This means producing a new comprehensive style that has widespread appeal is a massive task. It seems unlikely that anyone but Alpha can embark upon this commercially.

What Steve is doing seems to be the only way that offers a chance. If people want Steve's clean styles then they have to be prepared to build their own Sub Themes and classes where he has not changed the defaults.

Re: Sale of Alpha stylesheets & components

Michael...I am afraid you are right.......it is wishful thinking on my part. I remember participating in a discussion on this forum a year or two ago and there was a consensus that folks would be willing to buy theme packs similar to feature packs...that would unlock better themes, etc.

Obviously there is a need, but Alpha has been focusing on adding functionality over form......can't say it is the wrong decision because we all benefit from their hard work.....but it would certainly be nice if there were options built into the program (even at an additional, optional cost)

Looking forward to seeing what Steve comes up with in the next few weeks to help jump start things!
