Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Navigate to UX from GRID with variables

    From a GRID I can open a UX, via a java-script action in a button on the GRID row, in a window and populate the UX's arguments with values from the current grid row. That works but what I really want is to navigate away from the GRID and to the UX while still populating the UX's arguments. I'm unsure how to go about doing this.

    Mike... not sure what you'd like to do. Do you mean you want to navigate to another page from a Grid... rendering a UX... and load the data for that UX... based on a key from the Grid? You mention UX arguments... but do you mean arguments or controls? Because the UX has both.

    And... in what context? Is this a web app?

      Re: Navigate to UX from GRID with variables

      Yes, this is a web app. No exactly loading the UX based on a key from the grid ....I'm taking a value from the grid, populating that value into my UX argument. That argument is then used to select a specific row in that UX's list.

      That functionality works perfect using the "Open UX Component" action JS from my GRID, but, I don't want a pop-up window I want to navigate directly to the UX.

      Does that make more sense? ...thanks David

        Ok... I see it better now... thanks. It's not a UX Argument... is that right? You just want to click on a button on your Grid... passing a value... navigate to a page rendering a UX, and show a row in a List control as selected. If you are using a UX Argument... how is it set up?

          Re: Navigate to UX from GRID with variables

          Yes, I'm using a UX argument. In the UX's onDialogInitialize event I use the argument to determine what xbasic function to fire. The xbasic function populates my list. The list selection method is in that xbasic function. My current setup works fine using the "open UX component" action script in my GRID but it opens in a popup window. I want the same functionality but navigate away from the grid and to the UX.

          Below is a screen shot of how my grid's button is setup. Red Arrow: No option to navigate to the UX (which is what I want)...only options are to open in a popup, DIV, or panel.

            Re: Navigate to UX from GRID with variables

            This may depend on how sensitive your argument data is. From your Grid button you can do this...

            Code:
            var currCustId = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','INVOICECUSTID',{Grid.RowNumber});
            window.open('http://xxx.xxx.x.xx:81/AlphaTest/ux_Customers_List.a5w?currCustId=' + currCustId);
            This passes as Request variable along with the call.

            In your UX... Server-side, onDialogInitialize, you would process the Request variables

            Code:
            dim custId as n
            custId = request.variables.currCustId
            e.javascript = "setCustRow('"+custId+"');"
            Here we grab the variable, and then call a Javascript function on return from the event.

            Code:
            function setCustRow(custId){

            	var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
            	listObj.setValue(custId);

            }
