Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email using Outlook - Does not work - Server Busy with Outlook up and running

    I recently upgraded to V12 Desktop version. In prior versions (V9), emailing pdf reports via a button using Outlook would not work, so I used A5's built in mailer. Using Outlook does not work for me using V12, but now I get a different message. That message is this...

    SERVER BUSY...
    This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'Switch To' to activate the busy program and correct the problem.

    This is all the while that Outlook is running. If I do the 'switch to', it sometimes works calling up and outlook email that I can send, many times not.

    Any thoughts on what to try?

    Thanks!
    Thank you,
    Mike Konoff

    Try it when outlook is turned off. It was the solution we are using.

      Re: Email using Outlook - Does not work - Server Busy with Outlook up and running

      This will not be a satisfactory solution because I have Outlook on/open all day every day and would cause more work than the time-saving of emailing right from A5. FYI - I currently send this report using A5's built-in email client. Works well. But, many times I need to copy others on emails that go out. Using the A5 email client means navigating to Outlook to lookup and retrieve the email addresses of those I need to copy, to copy from Outlook and paste in the A5 email. If using outlook, all I'd have to do is type their name and their email-address(es) would auto-populate. This is reason for wanting to use the Outlook email client rather than the A5 client.
      Thank you,

        Re: Email using Outlook - Does not work - Server Busy with Outlook up and running

        I work with several clients that use the email a lot. The emails are opened in outlook complete with email address and then they add whatever they need to the email. It is like generating a report(or other) for a client and sending it to outlook which opens outlook. We are all on outlook 10. The later versions of outlook do not like to open 2 times it seems. I have never taken the time to investigate whether it is windows version or outlook version causing the problem.

        There may be a way to, when you send let alpha close outlook for you so it can open it back up? Pain - I know

        But I hope you well with your project.

          crazy idea, if too stupid idea, please ignore.
          send yourself the report to your outlook address using the alpha email client.
          open the email in outlook and forward that report to the one you originally intended to send, and cc (or bcc as the case may be) to anyone in outlook address book.

            mike:

            this is what I use to send po's or any other documents or pictures. it uses the default email client. it's a simplified version, but if you run it in the interactive window, or save it to a script, it should open a new outlook email with test.pdf attached(if it exists). if you need more code, let me know.

            Code:
            attachments = <<%str%
            c:\test.pdf
             %str%
              strBody = CrLf(3) \
                                    + "Your name" + crlf() \
                                    + "www.yourdomain.com"
             email_client_external("[email protected]","subject", "Test", attachments)
