Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Close Dynamic Panel

I have a mobile app that I am trying to develop, there is an onTap event on a list control that opens a UX component to edit the record. What I would like to know is, how can I close this dynamic panel either after submit or with the push of a button labeled 'close'. In searching through these forums I found {dialog.object}.destroyChildComponent('JT_MOBILE_GC_EDITOR'); but this is not doing anything?

Also I know that this can be done if I set the panelNavigator to TabBands and select the 'user can close ux' property but that is not what I am looking to do, I am using TabButtons. Any Ideas? Thank you for your time.

Before I have a look at this, is there a reason you prefer not to use the List control Detail View for editing a List record? Just curious.

      Thanks for the reply David,

I was unaware this was possible, now that you have mentioned it I do see the 'has detail view' option. Im not sure how to set this up so it will take some searching/learning. Is there anything that I should know before exploring this option?

        Re: Close Dynamic Panel

You won't need another UX or involve a dynamic panel. You don't need to use data binding, as such, because your detail view controls are bound to your List. Turn on Detail View for the List in the List Properties and you'll see a new tab. Once in there, you map List fields to controls. Alpha will even create the detail view control for you. You can put the Detail View controls into a Panelcard. You'll set up the List so that tapping on a row in the List will set the active panelcard to the panelcard where your Detail View controls are located. There are a ton of other options in the Detail View section... stuff for synchronizing etc. And there are Defined controls you can add for Saving etc. the Detail View controls. It's a much better process than an embedded UX.

Great! I used the genie to set it up and it is looking awesome, much smoother than what I originally had set up.

Two questions though, When entering a new record, how do I reference an argument? Ive already set up the argument and set the text box property to default to the argument (=:arg1), but when I select New Record, the text box remains at zero. BTW, the argument is set when a record in the parent list is selected, the "New Record" button is not enabled unless the Parent List returns a value>0.

2nd question, The genie created a 'Save' and a 'Synchronize' control, can I combine the two JS to just the 'Save' button using Action Javascript 'inline javascript' for each, and make sure to check off the 'run actions synchronously'?

            Re: Close Dynamic Panel

I feel like my last post is a bit confusing, let me try again.

My mobile app has three lists, 1 parent 2 children. I want to enter a new record into a child list, so when I press the New Record button, the control should default to the ID of the Parent list, but this is not happening and I dont know why?

              Re: Close Dynamic Panel

In the Child List control, you can set it as having a Parent and set the Linking fields between the parent and child. Then, in this sense, you don't even need to fill in the parent id of the Child Detail View control.

The component knows the relationship and fills it in for you when the record is saved. But... it doesn't show... so you could use the "New Record" button event to "get" and "set" the parent id value. Many times you don't even want the child id and it's parent id to show... so it doesn't really matter.

In the Detail View property of the Child List, the synchronization policy can be set to auto sync when a record is saved to the List. Lots of options in there.
