Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Easy way to filter a report on multiple records with checkbox clicked

    Hello all,

    Can someone please advise of the code to be able to include into a report argument to basically include all the records selected via the checkbox and display on report?

    In other words, I have a grid where I need to be able to select multiple invoices and click a button to generate a report that is filtered to display only the invoices clicked.

    filtering is done with arguments, you should be able to assign it via the checkbox selector. I would look in that direction.

      Have a look at Video M48. Selwyn takes you through the process of opening a 2nd, filtered Grid... based on the checkbox selections of a 1st Grid. Download the Grid component supplied.

      I createf a Table Layout report for my test. Then I went through the process of using Action Javascript to Open a Report and followed what Selwyn did for coping the main Javsacript for this action.

      Here are the 3 parts of the Report Javascript to alter...

      Code:
      ro.sqlFilter = filter;
      ro.arguments = args;
      ro._rowNumber = 1;
      Not sure what _rowNumber does 'cause I haven't really looked into it... but originally it is assigned one of the original parameters of the function... rowNum. I just changed it to 1 and it seems to be ok.

      Now I can select several rows of the Grid using the checkbox and have the report open with just the records filtered on those keys.

      This was a fairly old technique so maybe there's a more automated way to get this today these days... but it's excellent to see that the basics are still available and work well.

        What I do is to filter the checked records in the grid using a separate button (Filter Checked Records) and then I can run any report based on the grid using the CurrentGridFilter() and CurrentGridOrder() properties. It takes two steps but it also shows the user exactly which items will be included and can be used for checks across multiple pages on the grid when you set the property to allow checkmarks to be made on multiple pages.

          Thank you all, I have found that the CurrentGridFilter() does in fact work serve its purpose as advertised.

          With that said, I'm still hoping I can eventually find a "1 stop" solution to be able to simply click multiple records accross various paginated pages and simply press a button that can both update a note field with the term "Email sent" for all selected records, and also bring up a report filtered by the selected records.

          Any help would be very much appreciated!

          Thanks again,

            I do it now. However, you will need to know a little xbasic to do it. Look at the "argument_add_array_argument" function.

              I want to do something similar. Based on records checked, make a report out of it.

              Where do I find Video M48 to get started?

              Thanks all.
