Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Need to make immediate save to Detail part after emailing.

    I often use sql commands to update data to a database but in this case I want to see what A5 has to offer to do a similar thing. I am in an Xbasic function.

    I can't seem to find the exact working code to SUBMIT my changes to a DETAIL PART so that my normal SAVE and UNDO buttons don't appear active when I return to the screen.

    Any help would be appreciated. Please see sample code below and where I want to insert Xbasic commit code.

    Code:
    		if result then
    			    new_email_sender = "alert('Email was sent successfully');"
    			    e._set.item_date.value = dtoc(date() ) + " " + time("0h:0m")
    			    ------ I WANT TO PLACE MY DETAIL PART SAVE CODE HERE ------
    			else
    			    new_email_sender = "alert('Email was not sent');"
    		end if

    probably you could use dirty column property and see if it lights up the buttons like:
    e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf()+ "ITEM_DATE"

    edit: if you don't want to push the button
    then on the clientSide event - afterAjaxcallbackComplete event you could add
    {grid.object}.detailViewSubmit();
    something like that. ( check the terminology)

      I don't really have need to check if the buttons (Save & Undo) light up, they always do. My issue is simple. If I can set the values of fields in my Xbasic code using e._set etc. why can't I immediately save that changed data back to the table with another simple call.

      Your suggestion to add code to the [ afterAjaxcallbackComplete ] event handler seems to work. The correct syntax for the command is actually {grid.Object}.submitDetailView() (just in case some member is having a similar issue). Now while this works, there is a noticeable pause before the submit is actually achieved. So much so that a user could (if they were quick) actually click on the activated SAVE and UNDO before they turned inactive. For now, I'll live with that unless there is a better solution. Thanks for the response.

        i took this statement to mean that the buttons did not lit up, that is not the case they do light up. you just want to save without user interaction. now i understand.
        any way here is another method that might be faster than the afterAjaxcallbackComplete method, try and see if it improves speed of execution.

        Code:
        if result then
        			    new_email_sender = "alert('Email was sent successfully');"
        			    e._set.item_date.value = dtoc(date() ) + " " + time("0h:0m")

        	else
                new_email_sender = "alert('Email was not sent');"
        end if
        this is the code you have.
        do not add dirty columns etc.,
        do not use afterAjaxcallbackComplete event on the client side.
        go to the field item_date and in the onChange event declare an inline javascript
        and just add
        {grid.object}.submitDetailView();
        since this is happening at the browser level alpha does not have to check the end point of the callback to see if it is finished and alpha will initiate the save little sooner.

        this assumes that the item_date will not be entered by the customer earlier, if they did it will trigger save.
        but this will still make the buttons light up but the submit being little faster, hopefully it is faster than fast-click.

          I have not been able to implement your last suggestion yet because the app is being used right now. Later, I will try to use your method to see if I gain enough speed to prevent the user from thinking they need to provide a user interaction. Seems really logical to me. You have been right on so many issues I really want to send a big THANK YOU!
