Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I feel sorry for you guys having to do all this work just because of the loss of mandrill.
Everything I work with on the web already has plugins for anywhere from 3 to 8+ other emailers. Some are just simple mailers for numbers and others have ability for any number of mail templates to any number of accounts on a timer & counter.

You are missing all of the fun. Give me the names of the emailers and I will write one function that works for all of them.

I did in a previous post here
        http://www.acyba.com/acysms/gateways.html
This is my "main" email tool(ACYMail for Joomla) for groups and this will get you a list of the ones they have plug ins for. There are others to be sure.
Pretty sure ACYMailer is NOT something that would work with Alpha. It gives me a complete report on emails that have gone out, marks bad ones, and actually lets me know how many(in pct) will probably make it to the inbox as opposed to spam folders.
I hope they are all compatible for you guys to use with Alpha.

Plugins are also available for Alpha users tanks for Alphas Nodejs integration but seems to me that Alpha users like to write their own xbasic functions instead of using Nodejs.

Some of us are starting to wring nodejs modules. But there needs to be a concerted effort by us developers to learn that language. Show me any commercial nodejs module you can just "drop in" to an Alpha application.

Do not know about commercial Nodejs modules (If I remeber right even among Alphas Nodejs install files are hundreds different license files) but the point was that Nodejs integration in the way to extend AA just like Alpha team is doing.

But Nodejs is many times a confusing thing. I remember when I tried to install Googles Web Starter Kit . Google says: "Web Starter Kit is an easy way to start a new Project". Well I tried two days to get it going but this easy kit did install 50000 files and I did get errors and it was just impossible (at least to me) to figure out the problem. Dependency hell....

                Re: Mandrill changing

I have been working on a full(er) integration with Stripe using nodejs. There is a very interesting article over at PayPal about nodejs/javascript vs Java development. Bottom line, development time is lower using node and performance is better.

                https://www.paypal-engineering.com/2...-js-at-paypal/
                • Built almost twice as fast with fewer people
                • Written in 33% fewer lines of code
                • Constructed with 40% fewer files
                • Double the requests per second vs. the Java application. This is even more interesting because our initial performance results were using a single core for the node.js application compared to five cores in Java. We expect to increase this divide further.
                • 35% decrease in the average response time for the same page. This resulted in the pages being served 200ms faster? something users will definitely notice.

Obviously going from Java and going from Xbasic is not directly compared. But I also hear that xbasic is a big bottleneck in our applications. A major missing piece for me on node is how I create connection strings and interact with the SQL database. I have that part down pat on xbasic.

I quoted the PayPal article saying they were replacing Java with node/javascript.

                      Re: Mandrill changing

Hello, does anybody have any ideas as to why my emailing with Mandrill stopped working?
I have created my account with Mailchimp in April, and it has been fine for months. Just stopped working a few days ago... I am paid up, not a billing issue...
                      Not sure where to start...
                      Thanks, Dave
