Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Did you manage to integrate Sparkpost with Alpha? I could do with this example. Thanks

      Re: Mandrill changing

      Hi Adrian,
I have registered with Sparkpost.com. They offer 100,000 free emails and a lot of API's to do all kinds of cool integration.
I have not heard anything further from Alpha Software if they may have a newly written function to take advantage of these api's like they have done with Mandrill.
I have a thought in the back of my head to try the Mandrill Function with Spark-post. There are some similarities and perhaps it just might work with my needs.
Anyway I am not emailing out so many emails that using their relay service would not be out of the question for now.
So i am changing my system to use the Sparkpost smtp email relay they offer.
They are certainly worth checking out and from what i have seen so far they are light years ahead of Mandrill in their service offerings and customer service.

          Re: Mandrill changing

I sent in an email to Alpha asking for a email_send_sparkpost() function to replace the mandrill one. I hope they will make life easy on us and create it. I have buttons throughout my application that use it, I hope I do not have to redo them all - if I could just swap out the function that would be great.

Almost done. Just working on the merge variables and final json string format. It will be a drop in replacement with a different function name.

                Re: Mandrill changing

I presume this will be slip streamed into the new anywhere version 4 software. So those who dont have that will need to upgrade?

I do want to thank Alpha for getting this new function done for us users. I know it will make a difference for me and for so many other users.

I gave the Sparkpost product a good read, also upgraded to it myself, it truly seems to be a great product.

Mandrill goes dark for all user who have not upgraded to the mailchimp account, paid their ransom, uh i mean money for the account, on April 27th.
I believe if Mailchip/mandrill made their fees a whole lot more reasonable many folks would have stayed with them. Given that Mandrill themselves suggested that their users head on over to Sparkpost makes me wonder if there was something more to the higher fees to also push users over to Sparkpost in the end. And why?

So this update is just in time.

Thank you Alpha for being responsive to our needs.

The email_send_sparkpost() functuon is ready for use. Please PM me if you want a copy. It will drop-in replace the email_send_mandrill() function.

                          Hi Steve,
Thanks for doing this. I know exactly who you are. You may not recall but I am the fellow who lives in Santa Fe that bought your framework long ago and developed an application called LunchWorks. Also I used to be on your Friday developer calls as well. We have spoken many times. I like your work and always have told you so. Yes I would very much like to use the email_send_sparkpost() function, how can I go about getting it? And a great big thanks you for developing it.

PS My experience Steve is that you are an extraordinary programmer so I second that.

                            Thanks for the kudos.

The utility I wrote for SparkPost will work on all versions of Alpha.

SparkPost (sparkpost.com) is an SMTP solution where you can send up to 100K emails per month without cost.

One of the reasons I wrote the function was to take it to then next step and incorporate the advanced features such as running marketing campaigns, web hooks (to tell your application that the email was delivered/opened/rejected), etc.

I have not had time to implement or test this yet, but I am certain it will not only work as expected - I think it will give me more options and an opportunity to learn.
Thank you again. I will report back once I get it worked in.
