Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Security Roles

    I am stumped. I am trying to create a UX for adding new users. I have a radio button control called Security_Role. In the Choices, I set it to a Variable called UserRoles. In OnDialogInitialize, I have the following code:

    dim e.rtc.UserRoles as C

    e.rtc.UserRoles = a5ws_getgroupsdialog()

    The Problem: When I go to Working Preview, the radio buttons show up with the appropriate values. When I go to Live Preview, the radio buttons DO NOT show up.

    LivePreview doesn't support security calls. Don't you get a message saying the security framework isn't enabled? If they should up in Working Preview... what's the problem making you go to Live?

      Oh, thank you. I wanted to test if the additional person data was being saved. I will just have to publish to my test location. First time I've worked with security framework. (first Alpha5 project).

        Re: Security Roles

        I think we really should be using the new Context Security methods now, so Context.Security.GetRoles() instead of a5ws_getgroupsdialog()

          Using the supplied UX template to edit users.

          Change out

          a5ws_getgroupsdialog() for Context.Security.GetUserRoles()

          Code:
          function onDialogInitialize as v (e as p)

          '---------- Set up variable to populate the 'UserRoles' radio control
          dim e.rtc.UserRoles as c
          debug(1)
          '---------- Use security function to populate the variable
          e.rtc.UserRoles = Context.Security.GetUserRoles()
          Getting

          Error Occurred
          Context Not Found

          Just relooked at the example and it looks like it can be used interchangeably. Maybe I am missing something here.

            Re: Security Roles

            If you are looking to return the role for a single user, then you have to provide the username: Context.Security.GetUserRoles(UserName)

            Code:
            dim UserName as c = e.DataSubmitted.User
            e.control.Result = UserName + " Belongs To Role: " + Context.Security.GetUserRoles(UserName)
            If you are looking to return all user roles in security then: Context.Security.GetRoles()

            Code:
            e.control.Result = "User Roles =" + crlf() + Context.Security.GetRoles()

              Ok

              Wanting to understand the UX example and how it would be used with the new context security.

              I have created a UX with a list of registered users, that when a record is selected, opens up the sample security UX. I am opening the security UX with Action JavaScript to Open a UX and Populate data.

              Code:
              '---------- Set up variable to populate the 'UserRoles' radio control
              dim e.rtc.UserRoles as c

              '---------- Use security function to populate the variable
              e.rtc.UserRoles = Context.Security.GetUserRoles()

              if e.rtc.UserRoles = "" then
              	e.javascript = "alert('The Security Framework is not enabled.');"
              	exit function
              end if

              'To edit this action, place insertion point anywhere in the command, then click the 'Action Scripting' button'.
              ExecuteServerSideAction("Populate Dialog from Tables::LoadUser")

              'To edit this action, place insertion point anywhere in the command, then click the 'Action Scripting' button'.
              ExecuteServerSideAction("Load Web Security Values::LoadSecurity")
              What I am struggling with is how to connect the username that is being loaded from the Action JavaScript into the Context.Security.GetUserRoles(UserName)

                  Re: Security Roles

                  Context.Security.GetUserRoles() will return the roles of the Currently logged in user... when no UserName is supplied.

                  This just means that you can get the roles of any user, logged in or not, by supplying a UserName.

                  Also... I've been assured by Alpha several times that the older security methods are perfectly fine to use... that they all get converted into the new Context.Security methods when code is run. Having said that, however, I use only the Context.Security stuff.

                    Ok a few adjustments here.

                    Code:
                    dim UserName as c = e.rtc._data.UserName
                    e.rtc.UserRoles = Context.Security.GetRoles(UserName)
                    Ok so Context.Security.GetRoles(UserName) is getting the correct username. But I am still getting Error Occurred, Context Not Found.
