Default "Save & Continue Later" - Mobile Forms

I am interested in knowing if any of you have successfully accomplished a "Save & Continue Later" feature on a mobile application, specifically a form.

To elaborate further, I am building an employee performance appraisal system for my current employer. I have 2 forms that are filled out by Supervisors/Managers depending on what their subordinates are classified as (Non Exempt or Exempt). All non-exempt employees get their appraisals on one form, exempt on the other.

Currently, I have my forms built with conditional routing based on classification; everything works exactly the way it needs to as far as workflow is concerned. However, I have been tasked with adding this "Save & Continue later" feature for Supervisors/Managers to use while filling out appraisals. Ideally, the supervisor/manager should be able to go back after saving an incomplete form to pick up exactly where they left off. I am having a slight issue conceptualizing how I would go about doing this in Alpha.. Anyone done anything like this?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

As long as the fields are NOT required values to "save" the record, I do not see why you simply cannot reopen the record and continue editing...create a save button that saves the record that simply says save and continue! I am missing something as to why the supervisor/manager cannot see an existing record?

You could also create 1 additional field to mark a form as complete or NOT complete, that could signal what ones were not finished

    Let me elaborate further..

    1. I have a dropdown of employees that is filtered based on what supervisor/manager is signed into the app (each supervisor will see his/her employees from this dropdown and is able to select the employee to appraise).
    2. Once employee is selected, the remaining text fields are auto-filled with the selected employee's information (name, employee id, age, sex, classification, grade, etc).
    3. The supervisor/manager is taken to the correct appraisal form to fill out based on selected employee's classification.

    I have 3 components.

1st component contains employee data (with the dropdown).
    2nd component contains form 1.
    3rd component contains form 2.

2nd and 3rd component are embedded within panel cards on 1st component.

    Works well...

Now, what I am trying to do is.. After a supervisor has selected the employee to appraise, fills out a bit of the form, clicks save and continue later - they need to be able to get back to that form where they left off..
However, as it stands, when you go back to the 1st component, select that same employee to go back to, it tries to insert a new record rather than editing the saved. Hope this makes sense.

I know there is an ActionScript available in server-side events for loading primary key for parent table - I started with this and could not seem to get it working properly.. I would be able to save and continue once, but any subsequent tries to save and continue would not work - it tries to insert a new record rather than updating the current.

So you need a grid of EXISTING RECORDS - rather than create NEW.
One way to setup would be to:
Create a panel in a UX (which is what I am assuming your using here - correct me if I am wrong) to have a list of the records with a detail view for them.

    OR
Simply use an updateable grid for this, which I think lists are way better but its really about what you want not me.

New record would allow for that and then the records marked as not complete would allow (or cue them as to what isnt done) managers to go back and further edit the record.

If you just created a grid with a detail view - you could do exactly what your asking to do.

    Riley,

Is the ux component data bound? We can work on getting the record to load. I've done this in a few of my apps. You shouldn't need to build a grid to handle it. Can you share a little more about your UX component and if it's data bound and the code/method you used to load the existing record?

I managed to get this working exactly the way I wanted by creating a button and using the "Open a UX component" Action Javascript. Just configured the "Populate UX Component with Data from table", set Primary Key Source correctly and voila.. Easy as pie -.-

    Thanks for the responses folks.
