Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Cannot Setup Email template

    Using Alpha 5 V10

I was able to establish an email account and the tests worked, including sending the test email.

However, I am unable to type any kind of message in the body. I am not able to create a template to save. The body area of a new message is totally grayed out preventing access.

Perhaps there is/are some check box or folder I should setup but have not?

Suggestions on where to look or what to do?

Provide details if you want help.
There many ways of sending email. You have an account working so you have something else wrong.
You may not be using that account? you may be using one of many functions. May be anything.

      Thanks for the response Ray...

perhaps you could suggest what details are needed? The account works but the ability to create an email template does not. As I understand it, the template is created from a blank generic message. I can't do that.

The body of an email message has not been workable since I setup the email profile well over two months ago. I just got the email account working yesterday. Are you saying the ability to create an email template is dependent on the usability of the email account?

Attached is what I get when I choose Send an email.

I have Internal A5 mailer selected. On the other hand, when I select an external mail program, in my case Outlook 2010, it won't even open that program.

        Suggestion:
look up "template" in the help files. Under that, look up "Creating an Email Template"

You will notice that is done from a form?

Mostly, I send a report by email where the report is the body of the email and you can specify who to.
Works great, and it can be set to send or show first.

          Thanks Dave

When I follow the instructions in Creating an email template I am able to complete steps 1-5 (left image below)

At Step 6 I am unable to proceed because the body portion of the template is grayed out and does not allow any form of data entry or merge field insertion. (Image on right)

Suggest testing it with alphasports first. If it works with alphasports, then the problem is within your app.

              Dave,

the images I attached are from AlphaSports and the problem persists across AlphaSports and my application

As I read and look at it when you establish an email profile it is universal to all applications. The profile can be created at the Alpha 5 Settings level.

              Thanks

                  Dave,

I think there is something either in my email profile setup or Alpha setup. Where, I have no idea where to look. The fact it won't activate Outlook 2010 (using Windows 7) is another clue to that fact. I just don't know where to look other than deleting the email profile and starting over.

                  Any thoughts?

If outlook 10 is open, you cannot re-open it.
Try making sure aoutlook10 is closed before you try to open it again.
That seems to be an ms thing. Same with my win10 as win7

Understand that it has been years since I have used email templates in alpha.

It was easier sending reports except when I was doin hundreds of the same emails

                      Re: Cannot Setup Email template

                      Thanks again Dave...

My app is not for mass mailing but for 1-1 customer communication and documenting the email happened.

I do not leave Outlook open on my desktop and it is almost never open when I am working on the app's development.

Given the age of V10 I doubt I can get much from Alpha.

I do wonder if the use of Alpha Mailer would help. I am not sure that Netmailer is for this particular situation.

If I click "send an email" this side, it comes up as it should with Alpha send an email.

Go over settings/details have you used for the Alpha email setup.

                            Re: Cannot Setup Email template

Today I setup a new profile. Tested the process and the test email was sent successfully.

I was able to open the A5- Mailer and downloaded the test messages that were sent.

Whenever I tried to forward the email or reply to the email, I got the error message below. This is in addition to not being able to create the email template when I want to create a new message.

I have received this message several times before when trying to create email message from my form.

                              Ray,

The only settings I can set/find are related to POP, SMTP, email account and related user id and password. I have also set the ports relative to sending and receiving email through my email server.
