Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Setting up Win 10 for AA12 - Advice?

One of my apps as an example all the way back to v7 is like this

    c:\upsserver7
    c:\upsserver8
    c:\upsserver9
    c:\upsserver10
    c:\upsserver10.5
    c:\upsserver11
    c:\upsserver12

This way, I don't accidentally overwrite and older version and sometimes it is good to go back and pickup something I later changed

I picked up a copy of Windows 10 Manager from yamicsoft.com which really makes the whole Win10 experience much better. You can tweak absolutely every setting in Windows for about $30. I was able to remove all the Alpha registry settings and do a clean install and now it works great.

      Well so far...

It will be fine now, I am sure

Let me know how you do. For me v12 works a lot faster in win10 than win7 or before.

Re: Setting up Win 10 for AA12 - Advice?

Ok 2nd issue: My apps are using XP themes and I found a download to add them to Windows 10. However...my toolbars are all in the new 'flat' style that Win10 uses. Any one know of a way to get the gradient fill back?

            v12 comes with it's own themes/templates.

try a test form, and choose a theme for it. You can also modify, but suggest to save it in a new name.

I will send Images by email. That was a no go. I do not have your email and it is not easy to post images here or the alpha email facility.

            edit:

Try settings - preferences - enable xp themes at the bottom

I never used it so you are on your own with it.

Thanks Dave, I did find that preference which does bring back the gradient fill on the toolbars. But I am still stuck with the ugly WinD color and will have to change all my forms and buttons too.

You can create/modify a theme for a form, save it to any name and then apply the theme to each form. May be a lot faster.

I haven't looked at stylesheets (called themes now?) in v12. I'll take a look...

I reinstalled v11 from a fresh download - apparently that was my initial problem. Works great even without compatibility mode; which means I could have saved myself $500 on the v12 upgrade! I will still need to change my custom color scheme from greens to blues since the system colors are not utilizing the XP theme as I had hoped (though I got the green toolbars back). My custom toolbox for example defaults to a blue font and border using the NativeWinXP theme for style #3. I tried using XP Olive but it made no difference, highlights and such are still blue.
