Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Conditional Object

    Sorry, but search for what I need would take me days as it seems there are hundreds of threads regarding the word "conditional object".

    I have a form with employees info and 4 fields are used for Certifications on different things that are required. At the bottom of the form I have a message that reads: "This employee has 1 or more Certifications that have expired" if one or more of the expiration dates have expired. This works if all 4 fields have a date, but not all employees will have all 4 certificates or none at all, so there will be some with no dates and this is causing this message to appear. The problem I have is the message will appear with a blank date and don't want that, so need to know how to overcome this.

    Here is my condition: (Cert1exp<date()). If the date is less than current the above message works, however, there are 4 fields and if any of those are blank based on this condition: (Cert1exp<date().or.Cert2exp<date().or.Cert3exp<date().or.Cert4exp<date()) it will show the message. (This may be the wrong condition to use, but based on my condition, I don't know)

    I can probably do a 4 layer condition object on the form but would prefer a easier way.

    Your thoughts or input will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Conditional Object

    You may need to add the is blank into the mixture a bit

    a conditional object is very similar to a tabbed object

    Code:
     (Cert1exp<date()) .and.  isnotblank(Cert1exp)
    No I did not test it to get exact code yet.

    These could also be done with calc fields

      Re: Conditional Object

      I think you're going to need a field for each certification to see if it has ever been awarded in addition to the date of expiration. Then you can check for
      (Cert1 .and. Cert1exp<date()) .or. (Cert2 .and. Cert2exp<date()) .or. (Cert3 .and. Cert3exp<date()) .or. (Cert4 .and. Cert4exp<date())

      Also isnotblank(Cert1exp) should be isnotblank("Cert1exp").
      There can be only one.

        Re: Conditional Object

        If your certificates were in another table they could be linked to the employee in a set and your message could appear on a button (change button text in OnFetch form event) that then allows them to be viewed in a popup or a hidden browse on the form. Just an idea...

          Ok, with a combination of all your help, here is the finished results and it works.

          isnotblank("Certexp1") .and. (Certexp1<date()).or.isnotblank("Certexp2").and.(Certexp2<date()).or.isnotblank("Certexp3").and.(Certexp3<date()).or.isnotblank("Certexp4").and.(Certexp4<date())

          Thanks Stan, Robin, and Dave

            Re: Conditional Object

            I would suggest

            Code:
            (isnotblank("Certexp1") .and. Certexp1<date()).or.(isnotblank("Certexp2").and.Certexp2<date()).or.(isnotblank("Certexp3").and.Certexp3<date()).or.(isnotblank("Certexp4").and.Certexp4<date())
            There can be only one.

              Stan is suggesting that you are missing a few left parentheses. note the ones in red.

              (isnotblank("Certexp1") .and. (Certexp1<date()).or.(isnotblank("Certexp2").and.(Certexp2<date()).or.(isnotblank("Certexp3").and.(Certexp3<date()).or.(isnotblank("Certexp4").and.(Certexp4<date())

                Or maybe repositioning?

                (isnotblank("Certexp1") .and. Certexp1<date())
                instead of
                isnotblank("Certexp1") .and. (Certexp1<date()).
                to force the evaluation of the pairs together.
