Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Lost Data Recovery Options

I want to implement this and have Alpha automatically send my users an e-mail if they forget their password (Alpha should reset the pw and then e-mail the user with a new, temporary, one). I've configured the "Lost Data Recovery Options and the e-mail account I'll use in the Project Properties. In my login component I'll now add a button that says "Lost Password" ...so, now what? I've looked at the templates and I don't see anything ready made for this. Do I need to build a custom component for this? What methods do I use? In the Security Settings Alpha refers to a "reset" being selected by the user and the system automatically generating a new random password. How do I get the automatic functionality into my login component?? I've done some google searching and can't find the answers I seek.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

EDIT: I see that the legacy login component (which I am not using) has a recovery section built in. Why doesn't Alpha's "new" login templates have this example? Am I missing something real obvious??

Are you using the actual login component or a UX with integrated login functionality that you've built yourself? The actual login component does have a recovery section built in.. Look under Web Security -> Data Recovery Options.

The 'Login Component' that appears in the Web Security window is not what I am using. That's the "legacy" login I was referring to. I am using one of Alpha's login templates (SecurityFramewok-LoginComponent) modified to my needs. It's doesn't have any built in data recovery features that I can find. It appears I will need to handle this on my own.

          Re: Lost Data Recovery Options

You should review your "password/data recovery" to make sure they are acceptable in today's world. You have to make your own that model what you see in other professional web apps for username/password recovery.

Mike (or anyone else for that matter),
I am trying to do the same thing, and running into the same issue. I can't find any way to trigger the built in password recovery function.
I have used the UX components on a tabbed UI to implement login/logout, and even change password. But the Password Recovery is escaping me...
              Any suggestions are appreciated.

                  Hi Mike,
Could you offer some advice on writing your own recovery function?

What a5ws commands, etc did you use?

                  thanks,

                  Mike
