Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V12 with Outlook 2016

    Hello

    I have a V10 application that email invoices as PDFs via Outlook.

    Worked as should for years since V8.

    Now I have Outlook 2016 set as my default email client on a new Windows 10 notebook.

    And when I try it in AA V12 the dialogue says there is no default email account.

    I have set Outlook 2016 as the default client in settings.
    In the Outlook 2016 options the default program is Outlook 2016.

    Typical isn't it!
    It works fine for years and then a new operating system, a new version of Outlook and a new version of Alpha and the wheel comes off the bike...AGAIN!

    Does anyone have any idea what could cause this?

    Many Thanks

    Alex

        I just tested on one of our computers. Outlook 2016, AA ver 12 BUT the machine has windows 7. I was able to create an email with attachment from alpha. What method are you using to create the email?

          I have win 10 - outlook 10 and v12
          The only issue I have is that v12 only seems to not error if outlook 10 is closed.
          This is the same on a client's win7 machines(all 38 of them) and their one win10 machine
          I don't have a later version of outlook to test to be able to help you.

            The windows 10 default mailer works well.

              Hello
              The code that Alex and I use to email a report looks like this

              if var->cOutput = "Email" .AND. var->cEmail <> "" then
              if var->cFiles <> "" then
              var->cFiles = "Q:\eastmnts\Docs" + chr(92) + var->nJobno + "Invoice.pdf" + crlf(1) + var->cFiles
              else
              var->cFiles = "Q:\eastmnts\Docs" + chr(92) + var->nJobno + "Invoice.pdf"
              end if
              :report.SaveAs("JobInvcs", "pdf", "Jobno = var->nJobno", "", "Q:\eastmnts\Docs" + chr(92) + var->nJobno + "Invoice.pdf", .F.)
              cMsg = "Please see the attached files."+crlf(2)+"Best Regards"+crlf(2)+"Eastments Ltd"
              email_client_external(cEmail, "Eastments Ltd Invoice", cMsg, cFiles, "", "")
              end if

              Nothing very complicated!

                That's pretty much the same as we do it. Sorry I can't help further since I don't have Win 10, works fine on Win 7.

                  Re: V12 with Outlook 2016

                  From that it seems logical that Win10 stores the default email client information in a different registry location than prior versions and Alpha is not finding it.
                  There can be only one.

                    Hello Everyone

                    Many thanks for your input.

                    I solved the problem by

                    right click on Win 10 start button

                    control panel

                    programs

                    default settings

                    outlook

                    set to ALL defaults

                    Emails and their attachments work as the original V8 code tells them to.

                    Kind Regards

                    Alex

                      Hi Alex,
                      I'm not getting that path in Win 10.

                      I have:

                      Control panel
                      -Programs
                      --Default Programs
                      ---Set default programs
                      ----Outlook 2016
                      -----Choose defaults for this program
                      ------Select All checkbox

                      I just wanted to mention that because some of the other options were similar.
