Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Wiki Update?

Am I the only one who has not been able to access the Wiki today? Hope it will be back soon!

    Re: Wiki Update?

I am also finding I cannot access wiki but instead go the new documentation site. I try to use the new site but it has no search ability and most of the entries are empty. As my local PC documentation also does not work I am unable to do any research into existing problems with my application. Hope this problem does not last long.

      bad to worse, just annoying.
they could have left the old one alone and created a new link to go to new site which is probably being built and leave the choice to the user.
before something, good or bad, now nothing but useless non working page.

        Re: Wiki Update?

As you have noticed, the wiki is now redirecting to a broken page in the help system. While we resolve this issue,
I suggest you check out documentation.alphasoftware.com, which is up and running and has the same content as the wiki, and with a much better search feature.

It also has a feature that creates a print-friendly version of the page that you can save to PDF - or copy and paste into something like Evernote.

would you please leave the old wiki available and let the user decide where to go.
          (

.. may be, but the new documentation seems more version 12 oriented, at least initial experience)

            Re: Wiki Update?

Well at least they still have the legacy documentation help available. I would hate to have open an older version just to see desktop features...

Maybe somebody is really proud of the new documentation but it did not open to me at all (OMG!). Good luck for new users.

                Re: Wiki Update?

At first i was put off by the new help, but I just tried it to search on a function (which is what I use help for 95% of the time) and it is way cool. Excellent search, good navigation, easy to use, useful results. It's a big improvement. Try it before you judge.

I know some of you may like the old WiKi - why I will never understand, but give the new help a chance.

                  Re: Wiki Update?

Glad to hear you find it great.

It is great if you know what you are looking for but If you try to for example find function (a5_defineAliases ) but you do not know/remember the name I think it is quite hard job. In old wiki you just did put directly in the url .../a5_ and you did get list of all Alpha functions starting with a5_.

How about functions starting with a5.get_. How do you get list of them?

Of course we have to use the new documentation that is all we now have.

                    Kkfin,

I agree. They need to fix that.

In the mean time you can still use local help:

                      Re: Wiki Update?

Well today it seems the legacy documentation in v12 is also missing the image links. And the new online documentation is missing the section on Xdialog.

As you have noticed, the wiki is now redirecting to a broken page in the help system. While we resolve this issue,
4 days and counting...I guess I will wait.

                      Edit:
Ok, just checked again (earlier today there was no search box) - xdialog can be found by transversing here:

                      Main/Reference/Desktop Api/UI_Functions/Xdialog

However it is still very limited in its scope

                        Re: Wiki Update?

it would have been nice if they have the old one and and a link to new documentation. if the new documentation is so good no one will ever go to the old one and it will die down.
eventually only one documentation will exist. web is filled with millions of obsolete documents, alpha decided to make one less.
                        good work.

I miss the categorical lists for functions and methods. They help a bunch if you don't know the name of the function or method you're looking for help on...
