Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

New website with free Alpha components

    Hi,
On behalf of AlphaSnip I would like to invite you to join our closed beta program. We have built a website where Alpha Developers can share browser-based Snips of code within the Alpha community. In other words, AlphaSnip is not aimed at 'desktop' developers, useful though they are.

At this stage registered AlphaSnip members can only build a profile page and link it to their own website. In phase two we will roll out the added functionality of being able to display templates and stylesheets on members' profile pages.

Now we are looking for enthusiastic testers to check us out and report back. Your input would be appreciated.

The site is still in beta, but we hope to go live in two months.

Look forward to hearing any feedback from you!

I think alphasnip.com shows tremendous gumption!

Michael from Data Driven Systems needs a well deserved pat on the back for the AlphaSnip.com site - I can see a lot of promis in what they are doing - it's well worth a look - I know i'll be joining once time allows. 10/10 for effort from me.

Looks like the beginning of something nice.

Speed of server seems a bit slow at 56 of possible 100.

This isn't a performance test - it's innovation at work - give it time.

Yes, Dave, we have been very naughty. We are using Zebra but it is for a client who has a lighter load and is not yet ready to go live.
This package only has 1Gig of Ram and it is really disappointing. As we are part of an IT supply company it is hard for us to accept hosting charges. We sell lots of kit to hosting companies and have a decent relationship with them so we will put together something with old top end kit. The problem is we don't have the network skills but I guess this will be cheaper than the price of high end hosting.

Normally our programs are hosted on the intranet and don't suffer so.

Dave I have noticed that you host a large number of sites so any suggestion would be greatfully received.

Time to first byte seems to always be a killer for me. Kinda off-topic, but any tips that anyone has would be helpful. I just don't know what you can do to the WAS to make it go faster.

Re: New website with free Alpha components

if you look at www.datadrivensystems.co.uk this is a PC is in my house. It has 12gig of ram and is not set up any different to Alphasnip.

When we have our own server in a data centre we will use Alphasnip to speed test different set ups to help people gauge where the problems are.

Like you, any help from people who understand this part of the service would be a great help.

                      HOW ALPHASNIP WORKS

Alpha Anywhere developers can upload their Snips to our website, from where members can download them for their own use (according to their license agreement). Snips are built with Alpha software, so they need Alpha WAS. Snips will only work within the Alpha software environment. Please note that we have reviewed these Snips but make no guarantee about their functionality.

                      MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

As a member, you can browse Snips; upload your own Snip; download free Snips; or purchase premium Snips (from the owners websites). Members can also look for Alpha software programers. Many AlphaSnip developers will be willing to help you build sophisticated web and mobile applications.

michael indicated that you can upload any snip to the site especially if it involves new ideas.
i tried to upload angukarJS and alpha integration it takes all the information but won't upload but just an alert comes up to upload a component.
is there a way not to have that alert just upload descriptions or you must have an a5w page and upload that to satisfy the regulation?
