    Default Administrator Rights

    Hello

When asked about network settings for our application I will tell people. Each workstation needs to be set up with FULL machine administrator rights.
In the vast majority of cases this does not present any issues.

However, with bigger companies often I will get met with words to the effect.

"We do not as policy permit users or machines full admin privilege. This is provided for install but in normal operation only required permissions are configured.

They will ask "Are full permissions required or is there a list of specific files\registry settings that the application needs access.
They also state "we are happy to configure users with explicit permission for the necessary resource but would not provide full admin privilege"

I am stuck as to how to address these comments.

Any suggestions as to how I should respond would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    You need admin for:
installation so the files get registered
alpha5.exe set to run with admin privileges - no matter the user

Other privileges, I am not aware of. Maybe others will chime in.

I have several corporates with very tight security and the above is all that was ever needed. They all have servers where permissions are set by their IT dept's for the folder used.

    Hello Dave

    Thanks for your reply.

If I have understood you correctly, when you install the installation files on the workstations you need to do with admin privileges.

After that admin privileges are no longer required to run the application.

    Am I right?

Thanks for your help. It is very much appreciated.

    Kind regards

My understanding is that Alpha writes to the registry in quite a lot areas as it stores things like which tables are opened and closed. The amyuni pdf creator may also write to the registry.

I was advised by one hardware provider that they could run tools like filemon or regmon at the same time as running an alpha application to see what registry keys are accessed and how. Then the user rights can be amended accordingly.

    Can others comment?

My experience loading Alpha into UK Gvmnt sites is that IT Admin load your app and give full admin rights to Alpha only.
It's uncommon for users in corporates to have admin rights one their desktop.
