Workaround suggestion for issue with "Filter List - Client-side" List Control Action?

In parallel to waiting for a fix to a possible bug that I have found with the "Filter List - Client-side" List Control Action (I'll submit a bug report shortly), I was hoping that someone might have a suggestion for a workaround.

I have a list that I'll call LIST1, a textbox that I'll call LIST1_FILTER_TEXTBOX and finally, BUTTON_1.

LIST1 contains 2 columns with the following data:
A+1|B1
B+1|A1

On the onClick for BUTTON_1, I add a "List Control Actions" Action Javascript with the following config.:
Action name: Filter List - Client-side
List Id: LIST1
Search field: LIST1_FILTER_TEXTBOX

So....
When I input A+1 to filter for A+1, I find A1 and not A+1.
When I input B+1, I find B1.
However, if I escape it and input A\+1, I find A+1.
+ alone seems to break the app. and of course, \+ returns me both rows.
A simple dot "." returns both rows also.

My conclusion is that there is some regex stuff going on behind the scenes.

I've attached a "a5wcmp" file to illustrate.

You think I have to write a function to escape my +'s before launching the client-side filter list?
Does this seem like a bug that user input could potentially be so powerful and should always be escaped before submitting?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

You can do this... for all columns...

var str = {dialog.object}.getValue('LIST1_FILTER_TEXTBOX');
var searchFor = str.replace('+','\\+');
var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
listObj.filterListClientSide(searchFor);

or this... for specific columns...

var str = {dialog.object}.getValue('LIST1_FILTER_TEXTBOX');
var searchFor = str.replace('+','\\+');
var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
listObj.setFilter(
	{
		Column1: RegExp(searchFor)
	}
);

I got this from Selwyn to escape the "metacharacters"

var searchFor = {dialog.object}.getValue('LIST1_FILTER_TEXTBOX');
var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');

function escapeRegExp(str) {
  return str.replace(/[\-\[\]\/\{\}\(\)\*\+\?\.\\\^\$\|]/g, "\\$&");
}

searchFor = escapeRegExp(searchFor)
listObj.filterListClientSide(searchFor);

Being able to filter only one column is great though! I was also wondering how to do it. Thanks, David
