    Default Clarification of POST Rule

    I've searched the help files but there is no mention of changes subsequent to the original post operation.

    Assuming:
    A parent record contains a total field which equals 10 after entering and posting 5 child records. {ADD post rule}
    One of the child records, initial value was "2"
    You edit this record and change the value to "1"

    Will the post operation to the parent first SUBTRACT the initial value "2", then ADD the new value of "1",
    yielding a new parent value of "9".

    Hopefully the answer is YES

    Thanks, John

    Be careful to differentiate between the posting field rule and the posting operation.

    The answer if using a posting field rule is YES.

    If you use the posting operation, then NO.

    A posting operation will post the values from the transaction table into the master table.

    I usually blank/zero out the master table posted to field before running a posting operation. But you can control it also with filtering and marking of the transaction table.

    In addition, I build a summarization operation to check the values along with an empty the target fields and a posting operation to rebuild the data.

    That way I know if anything gets out of synch and can fix it.

    So come how I need a way to check it and to fix it if and when somethings breaks.

    Good to hear that you are still around even after a hiatus.
