Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

PDF Reports not displaying properly on Apple Products

I have an application that prints several reports using the standard report writer.

If I save the report to a pdf file and email to a Windows client, everything is fine. But When it is sent to someone who opens it on an apple machine, the pdf comes up missing information.

    It is really strange.

Has anyone else experienced this? It is happening with several reports, not just one.

I have an update to this. What is not displaying is BOLDED text. If I take a piece of text and bold it, it will no longer display. If I use a font that already has bold as part of it (such as Arial Black or Arial Bold) it works fine. It's only when the bold is added to the font that it will not display.

And it is only PDFs created since the last Alpha Update so far as I can tell. I am using 12.4.2 build 3670.

It started happening after I updated to that version.

Again, this only displays as an issue if you try to open the pdf on an Apple product. Looks fine in windows.

      One more update:

I have tested this on three different servers. One of the servers uses an older version of Alpha, and it does NOT have the problem. The other two servers have build 3670 and they both have the issue.

HOWEVER: If I print to pdf directly from my Alpha Developer it seems to work fine. So it's something to do with the server. Were there any changes recently to the amyuni driver that might be causing the issue?

I'm just not sure where to look anymore...

        You might check these settings:

On the Web Project Properties, PDF printing options: make sure the box 'Allow all international...' is checked. Also in the section under PDF Options you might try checking the 'Embed Fonts' and 'Linearize' boxes.

I tried that. I checked everything you suggested, made sure it was uploaded to the server, then restarted the server for good measure.

But it didn't fix the issue.

Please note: The applications in question have been working for YEARS. The issue has only cropped up the last few weeks - every since I updated to the last Alpha Version.

But I've made so many updates to the apps, I hesitate to downgrade to the previous version because I don't want to lose other functionality.

Ok, I went into the actual button the report is called from and checked those same settings there. That makes it work. The question is - WTF? This has been working since V10 - and all of a sudden it no longer works? Was there an apple update that took it out perhaps?

I had some trouble with reports too a while back. I remember reporting it as a bug and Selwyn told me to change the settings so I passed that onto you. I didn't remember doing doing it to the report as well, but I must have. Anyway glad it is working. I believe the issue was due to some update with the Amyumi drivers.

Re: PDF Reports not displaying properly on Apple Products

There was a change in the Amyuni driver used in Alpha Anywhere to create PDF reports some time ago for Win 10 support. Alpha Five v10 used a much older driver, and some earlier builds of Alpha Anywhere used an earlier version. While the functionality should not have changed, if you are using a font that doesn't exist on the target device, you may need to select to embed fonts.

This is a common problem when the PDF is created on a Windows machine using certain fonts, and then the PDF is opened on a MAC or Apple device as the font has to be remapped to an Apple font, that may be slightly different. If the font is embedded, it should appear the same as the original document.

Linearize is a good option for web reports as it allows the PDF to open faster.

Hi, I am having this problem too. I have set the project properties as described but I don't see how to do it at the 'button' level. Is that in action JavaScript? I don't have those same settings under PDF options in action JavaScript.

Re: PDF Reports not displaying properly on Apple Products

From the report action script, do the following:

Click on PDF Options. That will NOT take you to the PDF options screen. However, on this screen there is a button to Set PDF Options. Click on THAT button.

From THAT screen you should see the checkboxes for Multilingual support, Embed Fonts and Linearize.

Checking those should solve the issue. (it did for me.)
