Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web Security Problem - Login information Incorrect

    I am attempting to set up a test to host on Amazon Web Services using the Development Server.

    I am running an EC2 instance of Microsoft Server 2016 Base

    I have AA Developer Edition V.12.4.2 Build 3670 installed on a PC in my office. I'll call this the "Office Machine"

    I have installed the same AA Developer Edition on the EC2 server.

    I have set up a MySQL database in an RDS instance on AWS to host the data.

    Using Navicat, I can connect to the RDS database, and I restored a complete backup of all tables to use as test data.

    On the Office Machine, I set up a profile to publish using Publish via HTTP, and published to the EC2 server.

    At this point everything seems to be connected and working. The Developer Edition on EC2 connects to the RDS database. The Developer Server is running.

    I can connect to the login page.

    But when I try to log in, I get "Login information Incorrect".

    I believe the EC2 Development Server is not using the web security tables.

    I hope someone can tell me how to troubleshoot and fix this.

    I think u can run the application only on one spot that your office machine or AWS but not both at the same time.
    also check your "publish"connection string

      I am pretty sure I can run 2 separate instances of the developments server. I can't think of why that wouldn't be possible.

      The publish connection string seems to be fine. I ran the "Test HTTP Settings" in the profile, and it returns "Connected Successfully and login is valid".

      All the files are published to the correct folder on the EC2 server.

        You're using your Developer install as an Alpha Server? Is that possible? It's ok for local testing... but not, as far as I know, as a remote server. Usually it's a Developer License and a Server License - 2 separate Licenses... 2 separate pieces of software.

          Re: Web Security Problem - Login information Incorrect

          This is for testing. I only have one Server license, and it is being used.

          It was Selwyn that suggested using the development server to test. I have 2 developer licenses, so it seems to be a good idea.

          Once I get it working in a test situation, I will move the WAS and run the production version on an EC2 server.

          The development server is running on EC2, and it can see the RDS MySQL data. The problem (I think) seems to be that it cannot see the web security sql tables.

            On your development computer have you done the following?
            1) Go to Publish Web Project window.
            2) Select the profile name you have setup for your remote server.
            3) Click the pencil icon to edit the profile.
            4) With the profile name selected on the left, clicked the smart button [...] to the right of, "Named AlphaDAO connection strings..." (assuming you are used named AlphaDAO connection strings in your app.)
            5) With the profile name selected on the left of the "Edit Named Connection Strings - AlphaDAO" window, click the "connection Name", click "Edit Connection String" and then paste a Connection string that you have built with your developer copy on the EC2 server.
            6) Click OK on the various popup windows to get back to the main "Web Project Profiles" window.
            7) If you used the other type of connection strings then make sure those are all set.
            8) Set Publishing type to "Publish via FTP".
            9) Set FTP Program to External. (This will tell apha to publish to a temporary folder and you will be able to see exactly what Alpha is publishing and you can then zip the files and move them to your EC2 server yourself, when you get to that step.)
            10) Uncheck, Web Security Data Published - we'll want alpha to recreate the WebSecurity*.dbf files and related files. These are empty "link" tables that point to the the real SQL tables!
            11) Uncheck "Restrict Web Security Data Publish"
            12) Click OK
            13) Select to publish "All Files in project" and any other options you need and the Publish.
            14) Examine the temp folder to ensure you have new WebSecurity*.* files.
            15) put this set of files on your EC2 server and see if that solves the login problem.

              Re: Web Security Problem - Login information Incorrect

              Also, it should be noted that the Named AlphaDAO connection string value for the web server (Step #5, in post # 6) is stored in the "a5_application.a5i" file. So, you have to be careful not to take that file that is meant for one server and copy it to another server.

                Re: Web Security Problem - Login information Incorrect

                Thank you Rich for the detailed instruction.

                I have followed them step by step, but still get Login information Incorrect

                I have been using a connection all along that looks like this, with the *** filled in.

                {A5API=MySQL,Server='fz-dev.chvdejoanwp2.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com',Port='3306',UserName='***',Password='*****',Database='FreightZone'}

                In your step 5 you say "paste a Connection string that you have built with your developer copy on the EC2 server."

                This is the connection string I have set in the EC2 developer copy. And it tests as good.

                Should the EC2 developer copy have a different connection string? I don't see how that could be. Am I missing something?

                  Same question... why would the connection string be different when connecting to the same database?

                  As an experiment, I published from the EC2 development copy, and saved a5_application.a5i.

                  Then I published from my office development copy, and replaced a5_application.a5i with the EC2 file.

                  I still get Login information Incorrect.

                  From the EC2 developer copy, in Web Security, if I run the Utilities, I get this:

                  Untitled.png

                    Re: Web Security Problem - Login information Incorrect

                    Does the connection string test as good when run in the Interactive window on the EC2 box?

                    There might be something to do with not having a particular set of SQL drivers installed or maybe a firewall blocks the port. Use the interactive AA window on the EC2 box to perhaps get the error message of why the connection is failing. I'd run something like the following in the interactive window:

                    Code:
                    dim cs as c
                    cs = "{A5API=MySQL,Server='***',Port='3306',UserName='***',Password='*****',Database='FreightZone'}"

                    DIM cn as SQL::Connection
                    dim flagResult as l
                    flagResult = cn.open(cs)
                    if flagResult = .f. then
                    	ui_msg_box("Error","Could not connect to database. Error reported was: " + crlf() + cn.CallResult.text)
                    	end
                    end if

                    cn.PortableSQLEnabled = .t.
                    dim sqlStatement as c
                    sqlStatement = <<%sql%
                    SELECT Userid  FROM WebSecurityUsers
                    %sql%
                    'Execute the Query
                    flagResult = cn.Execute(sqlStatement)
                    if flagResult = .f. then
                    	ui_msg_box("Error",cn.CallResult.text)
                    	cn.close()
                    	end
                    end if
                    dim rs as sql::resultset
                    rs = cn.ResultSet
                    'The sql_resultset_preview() function opens a window showing a table with the results
                    'of your query. Show a maximum of 1,000 rows of data
                    'Note that the connection object is passed into the sql_resultset_preview() function so that the
                    'function can immediately release the resultset, thereby releasing any locks on the database that some databases might
                    'have applied.
                    sql_resultset_preview(rs,1000,"Preview Query Results",cn)
                    	'Now, close the connection
                    cn.close()

                      I ran the code. It opened the connection just fine.

                      The query returned: 1146 - 'Table 'FreightZone.WebSecurityUsers' doesn't exist'

                      Yet the table does exist.

                      I can successfully query other tables.

                        Are you using the same database user ID to open the db connection and query with Navicat? If so, then I'm out of ideas, sorry.

                          Yes, the database has only on user id and password defined. So it is the same from any of the connection I am making.

                              I thought of that. All the table are lower case, but the error 1146 - 'Table 'FreightZone.WebSecurityUsers' doesn't exist' is not.

                              But on my office development copy it is the same, and the message returned by AA shows upper/lower case table names, but says "Table could be queried"
