Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

The larger question is... with only one WAS license, how would I test hosting my application somewhere new?

        You can deactivate server license.

Re: Web Security Problem - Login information Incorrect

I have installed a developer copy of AA on the EC2 server.

Then I restored a backup of the development files from my office development copy.

So all the files are on the EC2 server.

But I still don't have the security working.

When I try to open Web Security - Users & Groups, it does nothing.

Web Security - Utilities shows the correct 4 sql tables, but says "Could not get a count of records" for each table.

How do I duplicate the project in the development copy on the EC2 server, and connect to it locally?

Not sure I understand your question. The database is an instance of RDS running mySQL.

              The connection string tests good.

You've probably spent the cost of a server license in trying to solve this. Wouldn't it be better... safer... to get a license... and get that running on EC2... ensuring that all is good... since that is ultimately your target setup?

Unless you can get something from Alpha like "Running the Developer Server with Security under EC2"... I would simply get a license and go back to work. Just an opinion.

If this is an exercise in how to get stuff done 'cause it's just fun... then that's cool... and I continue to read with interest.

You do not have to buy anything to test new server configuration. Just deactivate old server then activate new then deactivate again and so on.

In hindsight David, you are probably right. Who knew it would be so difficult.

I thought the development server would be a good way to test.

I think I will go with installing the WAS, and deactivating/reactivating it.

It will limit testing to times when I can have my production copy down.

You do not have to install anything. Developer did already install WAS just activate your license with it.

unless something is different in version !2, all developer parts come with a server to test and it can be reached from outside for 30 minutes, then it won't work it will only work for localhost. if you stop the and restart the server you get 30 minutes more and so on and on.
you do not have to install anything or activate the server, it is automatically on.

Have to say, though, that's it's not worth the price of a server license to have to work like that.

What is 30 min? if your building a large or heavy with X users, connections and infrastructure in the stage of developent, testing and production?

for testing purpose, what joe wants to do. can be done with developer license. unless this is not true with version 12.
it has nothing to do massive amount of users logging in and use this as your server to the world. if you are testing prior to launching your site or any other component how it behaves in real you can use this server and see for your self.

eric, if you like to see for yourself
start your alpha development part and keep it on. use the browser from the same computer or another but do not use localhost use the ip address and display the tabbed for example it will work for 30 minutes after that it will say the demo or something expired and it will only work for local host. stop and start again it will be okay for another 30 minutes, gives you enough time to see if the component is working as you wanted it to.
