Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Grid Button to show wait message

    Hello all,

    I have a grid that has toolbar Action Buittons and grid buttons that perform internal ajax callbacks, I have set in my clientSide events:

    beforeAjaxCallback
    Code:
    A5.msgBox.show('Processing...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'>Please wait...</div>','none',function() {});
    afterAjaxCallbackComplete
    Code:
    A5.msgBox.hide();
    This event does not fire when using any button? Am i missing something here? Both types of buttons perform ajax calllbacks, why doesn't this event fire?

        What Javascript are you using to show and hide the wait message?

          Re: Grid Button to show wait message

          I think the problem is the ajax callback is firing immediately so there is literally no time for the message and no reason to close it. the ajax callback itself has an option to post a wait message so I don't know whyyou would want the wait message BEFORE the ajax callback - there is no lag time there. You click the button and the ajax callback occurs, now it may be an event wherein you could set some variables first but I don't think there is a wait time signifigant enough to see the message box.

            Some background:

            I'm using a grid to run a punch-clock system for punching in/out for work and lunch, the problem I am seeing is that my users are pressing the punch button twice or more when the call back takes longer to complete, resulting in unwanted punches. I am trying to figure out the best way to freeze the screen so that the callback fires and refreshes the grid before the user gets the chance to press the punch button again.

            Any and all ideas are more than welcomed.

              Re: Grid Button to show wait message

              In Alpha's video library search for "wait". There are a couple of videos in there, once especially for Grid's, # G_V12--17.

              I'm not sure if the video demonstrates what to do if the ajax call back never returns; you'd want to handle that somehow.

                i don't think these work properly, only the after ajaxcallback complete works okay not the one before.
                if you want to see if it works at all do the following..
                go to beforeajaxcallback just add this line
                alert(e.ajaxevent);
                you will see multiple time it fires but not for your ajaxcallback. you may want to report this to alpha. now coming to what suggestion i have:
                i can only offer to you at the toolbar action button not all the buttons in the grid row.
                when you name the toolbar action button give it a name like <span id="ivanLozano">Buttonname</span>
                then on the click event of the button add this code
                document.getElementById("ivanLozano").innerHTML = "Processing..."
                and what ever functions you have defined goes after that.
                then go to after ajaxcallback complete add this line
                document.getElementById("ivanLozano").innerHTML = whatever was the original name here.
                you will see it works.
                if you have font-awesome installed then you can add the spiral preceding the "Processing..." like <fa-spiral>"Processing...."
                will it stop the customer pressing the button again? NO. if you want to stop that there is a method to blank it out i can show if you want or direct you to where you can find it.
                thanks for reading

                  Re: Grid Button to show wait message

                  I havn't tested it but like I said the before event is probably best used to set/get variables therefore if that is true you may be able to set the button disabled in the on click event and then re enable after teh callback is complete - that might do the trick.
                  Lastly you could put some text that simply says do not click TWICE but I would think setting it disabled would be pretty handy.

                        same as you, A5.msgBox.show('Processing...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'>Please wait...</div>','none',function() {}); on no.1
                        and A5.msgBox.hide(); on no.3 (after ajax callback complete).

                          Well... I'm not sure what I did differently from yhesterday to today but the code I mentioned in Post#1 is working perfectly now, showing a wait message then hiding it. I created Action Javascript events to handle the message box then applied them to my buttons to run before and after the ajax callback. It is working fine and as expected now. Thank you for all your inputs.

                            it is rumored that once you post on the forums some sort of mystical magic happens, I think it's all tied into an invisible function in Alpha. If you open alpha software and the forums at the same time, problems sort themselves out! SO always have the forums open in the background!
