Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Simultaneous logins in same browser?

Has anyone built an AA app that allows a user two or more logins to the same application within one browser?

A couple of our clients are pretty insistent that they need to be able to do this, so I'm wondering if anyone else has and has experience to share.

Bonus points for any iPad-centric experience.

unless something is different, i just checked my website (desktop using tabbedui_menu as landing spot with or without login) using chrome browser and it allowed me to sign in more than twice without any problem, and i was able to do different activity in each browser window. i haven't tried with ipad or different user ( i signed in as myself four times)
    thanks for reading

Gandhi - do your activities rely on the use of session variables? For instance, when a user selects an Animal, I set a session.Animal_ID for various filters. So the user wants to be logged into one browser window for Animal 1, and another browser window for Animal 2. You can see that this doesn't work well.

Could I re-write my app to use something other than session variables? Sure. But that's not in the cards - we're in way too deep for me to consider that.

Re: Simultaneous logins in same browser?

I am curious why right clicking on a link to open it in a new browser tab doesn't accomplish what they need?

Oops, I see you are talking about an iPad...

Using the same browser as soon as you log into that second account the session variables are overwritten. The only way around this is to use separate browsers. Just tried this with my app. I know that's not very helpful. Just confirming your observations Steve.

I agree, a tabbedUI with session variables will result in major issues using multiple logins in multiple chrome instances, even logging into different google accounts causes issues. I test by running chrome AND Firefox - this allows me to test both browsers while logged into two different accounts. I would tell your client, that it is a limitation of the browser and you will be right.

Re: Simultaneous logins in same browser?

Try opening a second browser window as a 'Private window'(in firefox). That works with my ISP where i have multiple email accounts and want to open more than one at a time using webmail. It seems to create a seperate session for the new window. I haven't tried more than two.

Edit: Opening multiple private windows does not gain any more logins. So limited to two. at least in firefox.

Re: Simultaneous logins in same browser?

We accomplish that by using multiple instances of the WAS. We often have 2 or 3 browser windows open with one on :81, one on :82 and one on :83. No trouble with session variables. But, we don't use a load balancer and we we aren't using IIS. Each instance uses it's own session folder.

OK, thanks. Ya'll are confirming my position that there's no way to do this without a user work-around. And that's fine with me. I wanted to make sure, as much as anything else, that I wasn't missing something.
