Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha5 incompatability issue

I just received a 'message' from Windows which indicated that A5V11 has a compatibility issue with the 'current' version of Windows. This is just after one of those pesky updates. I receive the following message when I try to send an email...

Unhandled Exception (Access Violation - The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.)
Alpha5 will do a forced termination.

    I am running

Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 64 bit.

    A5 v11 build 3381
    Addins build 4096
    C Compiler version 1600

Has anyone else seen this "new feature"?

    Thanks,

    Gene

    Re: Alpha5 incompatalbility issue

I have had updates screw up my Windiws Live Mail, and this sounds similar.
I presume you have tried running the Alpha app in compatability mode and/or Admin?

      Thanks Ted.

Sorry it took a while to get back to you. I was sidetracked for a while. This would seem like a silly question, if there is such a thing, but how would one do that? If it works as admin or in compatability mode, then the question becomes, how to always run in whichever mode on the users system without violating any system security concerns.

        Re: Alpha5 incompatability issue

PS . . . There is no problem getting my email when going there outside of my application on my desktop. There is also no problem sending an email from WITHIN my same application and version on my laptop. This leads me to believe the issue has to do with some settings somewhere that negate functionality on my desktop and not on my laptop. Where to look??? This all worked fine last week and no changes were made by me. I am the only one using this system so I tend to blame it on the last update. Anyone else having issues that cause A5V11 to crash lately with regard to using email_send or email_client functions?

          Re: Alpha5 incompatability issue

Gene, you can set Access rules in Win7, however, where the application is loaded is also critical. A few of us have opted to put the development and RT apps outside on the X86 folder. Windows doesn't like people changing data in that folder as it may be seen as a threat.
You may need to Google the setting for Accessibility.

If you need info on deployment using a deployment tool (like Astrum) to set the registry entries, contact Dave Mason on this forum.

Running in Admin mode once should reset things, and running a Compatibility Check should sort out any remaining issues.

I'm running Version 3788, Build 4187 so I'm not sure you are up to date.

            To all.

I believe I found the issue though I still need to understand why. When using the email.send() command on one of my PC's with the profile argument of "A5", the system sends the email then crashes. If I replace "A5" with "default", everything works fine. However, on another PC, also running Windows 7, the opposite is true. Anyone have any idea why this might be?

            Thanks,

            Gene

I do not know if this will help, Perhaps have something to do with the provider.
I have a customer that can not use ftp_get_ or list ftp_get_file. --
              He is using Verizon.
If he takes the computer anywhere else, it works.
I am still trying to solve the issue.
