Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Stan,

      what i know in creating a report, you create only one pattern or format for every page.
      how to create a report with first page would be like your drivers license front side
      and the second page would be the back of your drivers license in one report only?

      thanks

        Re: report gurus... i need your help

        The report should have a detail section only.

        Place a conditional object on the report. Set up two expressions controlling the conditional object.

        mod(SYSTEM->PageNumber,2) = 1
        Label: Odd numbered pages
        mod(SYSTEM->PageNumber,2) = 0
        Label: Even numbered pages

        Now place objects on the appropriate "pane" of the conditional object. You will probably have to place a bitmap or other graphic on the odd page pane instead of embedding the graphic in the report background.

        To get part of the data on one page and the rest on the next you will need either a page break object at the bottom of the odd page pane or two records for each id. The two records approach could be accomplished by appending twice to a temporary table.

          One more question... is it possible to print border less on an ID size printing media?

          thanks again

            I would think that would depend on your printer/driver. Alpha doesn't add a border or have any restrictions. Alpha uses the capabilities of your printer as communicated by the print driver.

              Francis,
              Does your card printer print BOTH sides at once?

              We print ID cards with basic employee info and a photo on one side, then on the other side, we print employee specific barcodes, and some other disclaimer info.

              We need to fee the card twice, once for each side, so I created 2 reports, One for side one, then pause the routine until the card is flipped and put back into the printer, then print the side 2 report.

              This is a snippet of the badge print code.
              We have lots of global variables and other things going on, but the core of what we're doing is in here.

              Hope it helps.
              Code:
              filter = "Emp_id = [varN->parameter1]"
              query.filter = replace_parameters(filter,local_variables())
              query.order = ""

              ui_msg_box(Agency+" Employee Badge","Please put a BLANK Employee card into the printer"+chr(13)+chr(13)+"With the BLACK Stripe DOWN, facing LEFT in the printer..")
              delete repname
              DIM repname as C = "ID CARD - FRONT@"+ppath+chr(92)+"employee.ddd"
              :Report.print(repname,query.filter,query.order)

              ui_msg_box(Agency+" Employee Badge","Please put the Employee card back into the printer"+chr(13)+chr(13)+"With the BLACK Stripe DOWN, facing RIGHT in the printer..")

              filter = "Emp_id = [varN->parameter1]"
              query.filter = replace_parameters(filter,local_variables())
              query.order = ""
              repname = "ID CARD - BACK@"+ppath+chr(92)+"employee.ddd"
              :Report.print(repname,query.filter,query.order)

              'delete options
              delete oldOptions
              delete ans
              delete badgeno
              delete repname
              end

                Re: report gurus... i need your help

                Francis,
                I have a report with two pages per record.
                I created a report without report, page or continuation headers/footers.
                Next I created a group with a group header.
                I don't use the detail section and put all the information in the group header. At the end of the first page a page break is inserted and the second page has different content.
                In fact I also have a report with three pages. The first 2 pages are like I explained, the third page is inserted into the group footer.

                    Re: report gurus... i need your help

                    Hi Guru Robin,
                    It is a questionnaire, starting with company logo of the client, then followed by variable information about the course such as type of course, date, place and trainer/instructor.
                    Next is the questionnaire itself that doesn't entirely fit on the first page. The last part follows on page two, after a page break. That page has a different type of logo and the remaining questions. Another form was required for the trainer/instructor to submit remarks and ask questions about the course. I could have designed a separate report for that, but decided to place that in the group footer. That page has an entirely different design to the first two pages. The only thing in common with the first two pages is the variable info about the course.

                        hi all,

                        thanks all for your solutions.
                        I have come up with this report but haven't tested it yet on the ID printer.
                        the printer prints front and back with single feed.
                        it will flip the card after printing the front side.
                        the printer brand and model is Evolis Dualys.

                        thanks
                        will update you all after printing the first ID

                          hi to all

                          sorry for the late update
                          i have resorted to different approach
                          since the the client changes its background from year to year, and i dont wanna end up changing background everytime,
                          i have come up to saving the needed records to excel file
                          Evolis printer is bundled with a software called e-media
                          this is where the create designs on the id
                          we just link the information they need from the exported records in excel

                          thanks
