Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email_SMTP Variable Not Found Error

    Greetings -

    I'm running a Gmail account via Outlook 2016. All works fine sending and receiving suggesting that the setup in both Gmail and Outlook is correct. Outlook is the default email client in Windows 10. I'm trying to setup an email module in a5v11 using EMAIL_SMTP. Here is the code:

    dim ps as P
    dim pm as P
    dim email_result as L
    dim vflag as L
    vflag = email_smtp_open(ps,"smtp.gmail.com",465,"[email protected]","?????????","SSL")
    if vflag = .f. then
    end
    end if
    pm.from = "[email protected]"
    pm.to = alltrim(vem)
    pm.attachments = alltrim(rmsg)
    email_result = email_smtp_send(pm,ps)
    email_smtp_close(ps)

    Email_smtp_open clears the error trap. But at pm.from a "variable not found" error is thrown. What am I missing?

    Thanks,

    Re: Email_SMTP Variable Not Found Error

    Code:
    dim ps as P
    dim pm as P
    dim email_result as L

    if email_smtp_open(ps,"smtp.gmail.com",465,"[email protected]","?????????","SSL") then
    pm.from = "[email protected]"
    pm.to = alltrim(vem)
    pm.attachments = alltrim(rmsg)
    email_result =	email_smtp_send(pm,ps)
    email_smtp_close(ps)
    end if
    while this does not make any sense, at least yet, constructing this way does not throw error for me, but the original did for me too. i cannot even debug() with that. try this way and see if works. if it does no investigation is needed, when you succeed one way or other.
    this could be possible due to google-gmail setting, i don't know.
    just so you know there is also another function
    email_send_gmail().

    edit:
    a repeat testing reveals it works just as you have entered in your post. i must have made an error somewhere.
    so i don't know why it is not working in your setting.
    use the debug to see if it throws any error.

      Re: Email_SMTP Variable Not Found Error

      I was using debug so, yes, it errors with debug for me too. Something else is going on here that isn't readily apparent. Note that I'm running a gmail account via Outlook 2016 and you must reduce a Gmail security setting for Gmail to allow this. As mentioned, sending/receiving email manually with the Outlook/Gmail setup works fine. And email_smtp_open appears successful so the settings appear okay. I looked at most all the threads related to email_smtp problems and not one mentioned a "variable not found" error on any of the "pm.??" variables.

      I'll look at the email_send_gmail() function although I'm not sending from the gmail client. Thanks

            Xbasic 101...
            I had an "Option Strict" lurking in the code above. If you dimension the pointer variables it works just fine. Sorry to waste anyone's time!
