Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    404 Error PNG Not Found on Server When list in a UX is Run from a TabbedUI

    There is this hierarchical menu system that was designed from a nested list (refer to Displaying Hierarchical Data in a List videos) that show how the following code was easily generated.

    The error I'm getting has been driving me nuts for awhile. It is basically a back button icon < of a hierarchical menu that is not found in the server called GridRecordPrev.png

    404 Not Found
    The requested URL /Project_X/css/{grid.style}/GridRecordPrev.png was not found on this server.
    Alpha Anywhere Development Server/12.0 Build/3962-4772

    Call Stack
    Code:
    TBI_FORMBUILDE_132440UCZR_DlgObj._controls.MENULIST.onInitialize/this._nestedList.doListAction eval:8261:3
    TBI_FORMBUILDE_132440UCZR_DlgObj._listViewSettings.MENULIST.onClick  eval:4191:2
    A5.ListBox.prototype._onClick
    $e.add/wFunc
    In the debugger the error occurs at this line:

    Code:
    var buttonTxt  = A5.u.icon.html('css/[COLOR=#ff0000]{grid.style}[/COLOR]/GridRecordPrev.png','style="float: left; vertical-align:middle;"') + _d[lObj._nestedList.displayPropertyName];
    which is equivalent to this code in the onInitialize event of the list:

    Code:
    [COLOR=#ff0000]var buttonTxt  = A5.u.icon.html('{images.dv.prevRecord}','style="float: left; vertical-align:middle;"') + html;[/COLOR]

            if(lObj._nestedList.iconPrefix != '') {
                buttonTxt = buttonTxt.replace('css\/', lObj._nestedList.iconPrefix + 'css/');
            }
            buttonTxt = buttonTxt.replace('a5res:a5res:','a5res:');
            bEle.innerHTML = buttonTxt;
    When I look for GridRecordPrev.png in the Web project and I find it under Images\css\MobBlueLocal\GridRecordPrev.png
    Then in firebug, I Edited the errored request http://PC:88/ProjectX/css/%7Bgrid.style%7D/GridRecordPrev.png with http://PC:88/ProjectX/css/MobBlueLocal/GridRecordPrev.png, the error code goes way and I get green OK status code 200

    Now that I know where the error is coming from, how can I change in {grid.style} with MobBlueLocal class so that the error goes away?

    More Info that might be of help:
    This list's Class is set to <Default>
    Has Fixed Header CHECK
    Fixed Header HTML:
    Code:
    <div id="listBackButton" a5-item="listGoBack" style="cursor:pointer; visibility:hidden; vertical-align:middle;"></div>
    Fixed header class name:
    Code:
    [MobBlueListItemSelected]
    The List resides in a UX that has its style name set to MobBlue.
    The UX is called from a link in a tabbedUI that has its style set to MobBlue and that the error occurs wheather the property Use master style is checked or not.
    The back button is automatically generated by the nested list genie.
    One important thing I just found out while writing this post is that when I run the UX outside the tabbedUI in a seperate A5W page, the error goes away and the back icon shows.

    Would someone help me undestarnd why this error occurs & hopefully help me fix it.
    I'd very much appreciate it.

    Thank you

    Re: 404 Error PNG Not Found on Server When list in a UX is Run from a TabbedUI

    I've struck the same problem. Did you ever get it resolved ?

    Also, in the generated code for the list onPopulate event, I'm getting an error to do with these lines:

    var ele = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
    {dialog.object}._controls[this.listVariableName].onInitialize.call(ele);

    The error is 'Unable to get property parentElement of undefined or null reference".??The list name is correct (LIST1) and also I've checked this.listVariableName and it contains the correct name also. It seems the line to call the oninitialize event is somehow erroring out. I can replace these lines with the generated code from the onInitialize event and the error goes away. (I'm not sure why the generated code wants to call the onInitialize event rather than executing the code directly - I guess there must be a reason ????).

    Did you have the same problem?

      Re: 404 Error PNG Not Found on Server When list in a UX is Run from a TabbedUI

      I ended up dropping the tabbedUI all together since it didn't keep up with the concurrent updates and ran the UX directly into a5w page. The error went away.

      As for the 'Unable to get property parentElement of undefined or null reference" error, have you tried running the list on a different browser, sometimes the cross-bowser compatibility code breaks when it comes to working with some browsers and drops the reference to the parentElement. if that's the case try adding meta tags like
      <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9" />

      Try searching online for that javascript error, you might find a similar solution.

      You might want to rethink your design, the problem might go away using a different design.

      Hope this helps
