Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Label printing problems after recent patch

    Hello,

I have a very simple application that allows the user to type in a name and DOB and hit a button that prints a sheet of labels (30 to a sheet) from a specific tray of a specific printer. This has worked beautifully until yesterday, when I installed the most recent patch from Alpha (was previously using v12, but not the most recent patch).

Now, when you hit print, it begins to render an absurd number of pages of labels. Nothing in the design of the database has been changed at all, so why is it suddenly not working correctly? When I test this on another computer on our network that hasn't had the patch update, everything works as before.

    I am now using V12.4.3.2, Build 4119_4825

It is worth noting that when I adjust the setting for how many copies of each label to be printed from 30 to 1, it does not seem to start rendering a thousand pages of labels. However, being that we need a full sheet of labels this doesn't really help us.

The first thing to do is to go back to the previous build. With Alpha, you can do this. The second is to submit a bug report.

Or, you could go through the process of reconfirming the label printing parameters again.
I have had to reconfirm processes - without change - so that a new version picks things up and processes correctly.

          Hi,

I went through and re-checked EVERYTHING in the setup of the label, how we were telling it to print, etc. Everything is how it should be. Rolling back to the last 2016 release solved the problem, all the 2017 patches have the issue.

Did you just visually check, or did you confirm the setting by "Edit" and "Save" and not actually change anything?

I believe we went so far as to completely re-build the database (it was a very simple database) and the error persisted.

Adrianne, thanks for your feedback. Please submit a bug report. From the control panel, in the menu bar, select Help, Send a Bug Report.

You do need to best describe what is happening and if possible, a simple working example.
