Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    WEB on the Desktop

I have heard about WEB on the desktop and decided it was time to explore this option. The attached zip file has a table, a couple of forms and 2 WEB components. Unzip into a folder and run the application. This was created using Version 11. It needs some work yet and I was hoping that by sharing this, others may add to this.

    Thanks

    Re: WEB on the Desktop

For those who may not know: from the control panel, in the tool bar, you need to click on the Web Projects to see the web components. Then select the choice, Web Components from the list on the left of the screen. It appears to me that the web components I have made act just like xDialogs and so far are much easier to build. The down side, while xbasic is used in the server side events, javascript is used in the client side events. My purpose for going this route is I'm building hybrid applications where the original is a desktop application and I now have some small web applications connected to the desktop app. If I can build one component that works in both the desktop and the web, I'll save a lot of time.

Ron, the "attachment" Playing Around.zip comes down as a PHP file, not a zip file.

          It's all down to Brexit!
I'll try on a different browser

          Edit
          Worked on IE11
The problem was Win10 updating and also ITunes on the Ltop

          Edit 2
But then again, I was getting odd messages from the Forum panels.
Anyway, well done Ron! I have been experimenting with Tabbed Views Grids and Dialogs and it certainly expands the options available.

You can also use Alpha DT as a launch pad for any other Web applications.
Ron got me thinking about it with his post. I have used static sites before - like Google Maps, but the sites can be interactive.
In fact complete applications can be accessed and used, not just websites. Modesty prevents me including any.

                How you handle the security?

I suspect that what Ron means is tgat DT will enable access to the web app. Then, DT security should work.
I'm not sure Web to DT will work, but I've been wrong before so my wife says.

                    Re: WEB on the Desktop

The problem with security using WCD is that web application use AA server security and desktop can not use it directly. This may lead to situation that you can not share same component in web and desktop.

                      Re: WEB on the Desktop

Actually, I have very large and very mature DBF based applications running both on a network and using RDP. The need has come about that some mobile connectivity is required. Additionally, we are still adding features to the desktop side of the application. There is some unwanted redundancy as for the desktop I'm making xDialogs and then for the WEB I'm making UX components. With what little I know, UX components seem very similar to xDialogs in how they behave.

I'm hoping to make one component that can be used for both the desktop and the WEB.

Never thought about security as I am using security for the DT and the WEB.
