Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Summary variable

    Hello Everyone

    I'm sure this is pretty simple but I'm just not seeing the solution and need to ask for help.

    I'm trying to pass an e.summaryValues variable in a child table to be displayed on the parent's grid.

    So far I have this in the child's OnSummarySectionRender:

    dim vTotCon as c

    vTotCon = e.summaryValues.Sup_Quote.Total
    e.javascript = "alert("+ vTotCon +");"
    e.javascript = "var v_CT = "+ vTotCon +";"

    The alert js is just to test if the variable has the right value when run in the parent grid.

    So, now what? I'd like to have this value displayed in a free form section on the parent grid, but how?

    I have this in the free form of the parent grid:

    <div>
    Totals:</br>
    <div>Contractor: <span id="C"></span></div>

    </div>
    <br />

    And this in the onGridRender event in the Javascripts System Events in the parent grid:

    var x_var1='';
    if(v_CT) x_var1 = v_CT;
    else x_var1 = 'Nothing to see';
    $('C').innerHTML = x_var1;

    I'm not sure if this is even the right method but from all the videos and posts I think I'm close.

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Re: Summary variable

    You are on right track, but you need to go a little farther.
    Here is something for you to try, I don't have access to mine to test.
    The JavaScript code to set value needs to be built, first.
    Like this
    var po = {dialog.object}.getParentObject;
    If (po) {
    po.setValue(the field, the value);
    }

    Please adjust to grid and proper terminology
    If you test and get all working then in the place you want the action construct e.javascript like this.
    e.javascript = e.javascript + "var po = .....;"
    e.javascript = e.javacript + "if (po)...;"
    You get the idea, right.
    That is how you pass the value back.
    If you did not succeed by tomorrow I will try to post a code for you.

    Edit:
    For innerHtml you could try
    e.javascript = e.javascript + "var ele = document.getElementById('Spn id');"
    e.javascript = e.javascript + "ele.innerHtml =" + your value + " ;"

      Re: Summary variable

      Hi Gandhi

      Thank you for the quick reply, sorry for my delayed response

      I still can't get it to work but I'm not sure I'm using your code properly.

      To be clear, your code goes in the OnSummarySectionRender Server-side Events section of the child grid, correct?

      This is what I have in that section:
      dim vTotCon as n
      vTotCon = e.summaryValues.Sup_Quote.Total

      e.javascript = "Var PO={grid.Object}.getParentObject();"
      e.javascript = "if (PO){PO.setValue('G','V_CT',{grid.rowNumber},+ vTotCon +);}"

      The second e.javascript event causes the child grid to crash when run from the parent grid.

      I'm wondering about the .setValue. As I'm not setting the value of a field in the parent grid, only a variable (V_CT) that is displayed in the free form area, is this the issue?

      Also, does it make a difference that the parent grid is a "form" rather than a "grid"?

      To reiterate what I'm attempting to do:

      When run, this code:
      dim vTotCon as n

      vTotCon = e.summaryValues.Sup_Quote.Total
      e.javascript = "Var PO={grid.Object}.getParentObject();"
      e.javascript = "alert("+ vTotCon +");"

      The alert function displays the summary value (vTotCon) of the items in the child grid (The alert is only for testing and works perfectly in the parent grid (form)).
      I'd like to have the value of vTotCon displayed in the free form area on the parent grid (form).

      Thank you for any assistance

        Re: Summary variable

        You are overwriting e.javascript.
        Please read it is
        e.javascrip="........."
        e.javascript = e.javascript + "........."

        I will try later to post code when I get home

            Hi Gandhi

            Thank you for the video, very useful

            But.....

            Still not working even though I've written the code exactly as you've done in both the child and parent grids .

            At the end of your video you mention the code:

            e.javascript = e.javascript + "ele.innerHTML= " + vTotCon + ";"

            is sent to the po header and the po header has a "document total"

            This means?

            Thank you again for all your help.

              when you send a command to the browser, if it contains multiple commands you need to add them, not overwrite them.

                the header contains the span line <span id = "total"</span>
                if you want to send a command to set the span value to "gandhi" via browser in xbasic then the code will be
                Code:
                e.javascript = "var ele = document.get.elementById(\"total\");"
                e.javascript = e.javascript + "ele.innerHTML = \"gandhi\";"

                      Re: Summary variable

                      Hi Gandhi

                      The parent grid is form (columnar)
                      Grid_Layout.png
                      Field_layout.png

                      There's no "grid" section or "detail" section. The form will open from a tabbed ui (not built yet)

                      The child grid is a simple linked grid based on a common field between the two tables.

                      Does it make a difference if these are MySQL tables? Would there an issue with the SQL select statement? (I wouldn't think so but I'm far from a SQL genius)

                      Thank you for your help.

                            build two new components parent and child and do the steps that needs to display the total. and see if it works.
                            many times in the board i see threads where something did not work when all things appear normal were found to be something wrong in the component itself. so try it won't hurt.

                              Tried it with firefox and chrome, same result. Very strange.

                              I'm wondering of it's a win10 issue? I'll try it on my win7 machine later tonight.
