Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Using currentListFilter("listname") not working

    Getting the following error when trying to run a report where it uses the currentListFilter() function to get the filter for the report. Anyone else running into this issue using this filter technique for a PDF report?

    Report did not print. Error reported was:
    Report Server: Layout name: C:\a5v12\A5Webroot\trucks_rpt.a5rpt Layout type: report SQLReporting 9 - Could not create ResultSet from DataSource definition. Unknown error while prompting for argument values at line: 552

        I am just building a sql filter the hard way. Not the preferred method.

          Unfortunately I use this technique in over 25 different lists so building an SQL filter for all of them only to have the problem fixed and switching back would be way too much wasted time, so I am trying to recreate the issue to send in a bug report.

            I am getting a similar error to this one, only my error is that the currentlistfilter function does not exist.

            What did you do to fix your issue?

              I believe the error I was receiving before had been fixed by an update shortly after as it was due to a bug. I am also experiencing the current error (just noticed it yesterday myself) and to fix the issue I just switched to building my own sql filter as it seems from time to time the currentListFilter("listtname") function fails and most of the time I can't just use a pre-release to get a the fix so I have to wait a few weeks before I can get the next released version which is too long. I haven't turned in a bug report on this but I would definitely suggest doing so.

                actually, the currentListFilter("listname") psuedo function is working just fine.
                here is a test case showing this: http://alphaanywheredownloads.s3.ama...ort_filter.zip

                  Re: Using currentListFilter("listname") not working

                  I was having trouble with this also, I had given up and just created new SQL filter's for the reports
                  so I downloaded Selwyn's demo
                  It does work (using action javascript)
                  but I added a button to the demo, used the list method setFilter() :
                  var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('list1');
                  lObj.setFilter(
                  {
                  Country: RegExp('Germany','i'),
                  }
                  );

                  it does filter the list, does not filter the report
                  it would seem that using using a methed called list.setFilter() would set the currentListFilter() ??

                    Re: Using currentListFilter("listname") not working

                    currentListFilter() picks up the server side filter applied to the List. it does not pick up the client side filter applied to the list. you are applying a client side filter. this will not work and is not the intended used case for the currentListFilter() psuedo-function.

                      Re: Using currentListFilter("listname") not working

                      Thanks, nice to know, but there's no mention of that in the genie:
                      it just says "Printing the Currently Selected Records
                      If your target report is based on the same table(s) as the current Grid, you might want the report to include all of the records that are currently selected in the Grid. To do so, you can use these special functions in your Filter and Order expression:
                      CurrentGridFilter()
                      CurrentGridOrder()"

                      Creating SQL filters wasn't too difficult, but it would be nice not to have to create two sets of filters for every list/report

                        Re: Using currentListFilter("listname") not working

                        Part of this issue was caused by opening the report in a tabbed UI. (Finally figured it out yesterday!) When opening a report to a Tabbed UI, the getlistfilter was failing.

                        This is fixed in the current pre-release. (I haven't tested it myself, but I trust that Selwyn has it handled).
