Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Client Side Conditional Style on a list control field missing

    Re: Client Side Conditional Style on a list control field missing

    Thanks David - works like a charm! I was hoping to avoid using the Event (onItemDraw in this case) and do the changes in the template. Which, of course, was not possible since the item draw changes is on the individual level, not global for the whole list. On the flip side, when I think of the way it's done, a great things that Alpha provides the granularity to control and use those different events, in js/xbasic direct code or functions.
    PS if I was up-to-date with the Alpha versions, the Kanban layout would provide more functionality for what I needed. I was watching a webinar about that, really cool stuff about moving records from one to another group.

      Re: Client Side Conditional Style on a list control field missing

      Gregg,
      in my case the client side conditional style won't work, since I can't hardcode the conditions. From the pictures: I don't know what file extensions would come up in a dynamic setting.
      That's where I could define a workaround condition by a certain field of the table, but the one that I needed ( {<LogicalRowNumber>} ) did not work.
      Thanks for the note!
      Sime

        Hi Sime,

        Sorry my solution doesn't help for your particular situation, but it was meant to be a solution for
        the original issue of this thread, which was not being able to set a client-side conditional style for
        a cell on a list control. My pictures show where to set that condition, as well as the results.

          I got it Gregg. That was new to me, as I don't use A5 frequently.
          Thanks to you, David and the other good people helping at this board. And Alpha for quickly fixing and upgrading different parts of the software.

            That's good if you have 3 or a few more conditions. In this case it's possible that there are 26... so I'd take a different approach. Once I see a duplication of code more than 2 or 3 times it's a clear indication that there is something else that can be done.

              Hi David,

              As I said earlier, my solution was strictly meant to solve the issue that started this thread.
              Knowing how simple copy and paste is, I would not be afraid to use this method.

                Agreed. That's one of Alpha's strengths... that you can get things done a few different ways... that you can use 26 conditional statements... or a bit of Javascript... to get needed results.

                  I'd like to jump into this thread a year later with a question. I think my situation is very similar, but I'm stuck with having it compare dates. I'm trying to have a field (row even better) show yellow if we are within 2 months of today and red if expired. I tried the field conditional with data.enddate < Date() and that didn't work. Then I tried the List Control onItemDraw.
                  Code:
                  var today = new Date();
                  if(data.enddate < today) {
                  e = {listElement:endDate};
                  e.style.backgroundcolor = 'red';
                  It will work for me if I compare anything else. Ex. 1=1 or data.enddate == data.enddate, but I cannot get it to compare to today, or even better to do if data.enddate - today < 30. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
