Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What might this JS error be?

Very recently (since I upgraded from 4119_4825 to 4346_4889 ... coincidence?) my users are experiencing these random pop-up JS errors. I can't seem to reproduce it myself. These errors don't seem to effect anything. My users click ok and carry on with their work.

Could anyone, by looking at them, give me a clue? This is a web app by the way. I suppose I could turn on the logs but trying to avoid it.

Lastly, why are JS errors in a pop-up now?? ....I'm familiar with them in the console but a pop-up?

I believe you need to re-build the component using the new build - 4346. I believe the error is caused because the component was created with an older build but is now running under a server with a newer build.

You can perform a bulk re-build by choosing Edit, Bulk, Recalculate UX components. Or you can open a UX component in design mode and choose Recalculate all controls from the Controls, Menu dropdown.

Thank you, David. The very first thing I did after updating was do a bulk recalculate then republish. Since then I've recalculated a few individual components as well trying to track down this error.

Your users are seeing the errors but, using the same UX component, you are not? Dev and Server builds at the same level? Can the users re-produce the error?

Yes, exactly. I have yet to see the error. The screenshots I posted above are from my users. They tell me it's seemingly random, for what that's worth. Yes, both dev and the server are the same build.

I have ver 4346 and I am seeing this error also. It pops up intermittently but does not seem to affect the ux in any way. I have recalculated all of the controls for this ux and the error still exists.

Frank, is it an actual pop-up? ...as if the error was alerted to the browser?

My logs has been on all day and nothing sticks out. I'm considering sending this to Alpha but with the issue being so random I have no way of creating a test case. Bug reports that basically say "I'm getting this random error..." are not received well (understandably of course).

Re: What might this JS error be?

The next question I would look into is cached portions of the component, are lists set to cache anything like look ups, etc?
If nothing else you could, perhaps uncheck the cached lookups or see if the list is being restored from the file system...if that is going on. I am just guessing, btw but "file system" append seems to point to that??? Hope you solve it!

Yes it is but I didn't think about it that way. That is different.

Charles I don't think I am doing that anywhere. Where would I find the 'cached lookups'?

Re: What might this JS error be?

Well, I was referring to in the list control where you might restore data or store data in the local file system. Cached look-ups would be something different though, that's when you might use a look-up for a control, such as a grid or an edit-combo - often there is a check box to cache data from the lookup.
I was really leaning towards the local file system options in the list control - as perhaps the local data storage might have been a bit different in a previous version of AS versus the newer version.
                      Taken from the pre-release:

In build 4.4.4, the ability to persist the List data to the filesystem, rather than local-Storage, was introduced. This provided for a large increase in the amount of data that could be used in offline mobile apps. A bug was fixed when doing an incremental refresh on the List when the List data was being persisted to the filesystem.
Now, keep in mind I am guessing here but like I said I was just going by the fact that the error appears to reference the "file-system" and MAYBE it is referencing something along those lines.
If your component throwing the error doesn't even have a list control - well I guess it's irrelevant.

Re: What might this JS error be?

I don't use the build for this reason (a very unhappy client), can't see how it's our issue to resolve or work to around. It's really difficult as you can't send a test case - so i'm just going to wait it out.

I sent a bug report to Alpha with screen shots of the error. When they get back to me I'll report back here.

Alpha is unable to duplicate it themselves. They believe it's worth investigating but need a test case. Since I can't seem to nail down the precise steps that reliably produce this problem I can't put together a test case. I'll keep trying...

It just happened again. I have tried to repeat the same steps but I can't get it to happen for me. Frustrating.
