Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: What might this JS error be?

Thanks but I'm sure there is more to be done. I discovered that there seems to be a distinct difference between bulk recalculating and recalculating at the component level. I tried Friday's pre-release and immediately bulk recalculated everything then republished everything. Discovered a weird error in one of my components. On a hunch I recalculated that individual component (by opening it up and recalculating via the menu). Not only did that solve that particular error but the file size had increased. I sent this to Alpha Friday.

For now I'm running 4269-4867 and all seems well. Something significant changed in 4.4.4 (and broke). For one thing some JS errors having to do with a "fileSystem" alert to the browser ...why?? I asked Alpha this a couple different times but didn't get an answer. Leave the error in the console. I don't understand the usefulness of alerting it. In my particular case the JS error pop-up didn't actually break anything in my app. I would have left it alone except for the fact is kept alerting to the browser and irritating my users.

So glad this was fixed, as this has been very annoying for the past couple of days. David, thanks for pointing me towards this post.

Can someone point me to the pre-release?

Here is the pre-release link: http://aadocuments.s3.amazonaws.com/...easeNotes.Html

Understand that using a pre-release isn't with out risk. There may be bugs in the pre-release that break something else.

Thanks Mike. That's a risk I have to take. My users are not happy about this error message.

Sounds like an official release is required.

Re: What might this JS error be?

Well one thing I know, is that I use the pre-release against the grain in a production server without regret. With the ability to easily rollback I can test everything rather quickly myself, so far so good! I have had an issue with a pre-release don't get me wrong, BUT like I said it was found out fast and I just rolled back and restarted the server. I have less than 10 customers using my app and NOT all at the same time and I know most of my users personally so they might call and say - "what are you doing now?"

Re: What might this JS error be?

Thanks all for feedback and Charles, thank you for your vote of confidence on this pre-release patch. I didn't have a choice, as I would have had to re-design the entire UX component if I didn't do the update for this patch. On a related note, I did run into some issues with the patch initially. I received very random SQL error messages (i.e. there is an argument in the SQL query that is not...) after the initial update. I reinstalled the patch and seems stable now.
