Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I know ....same here. This is what Selwyn asked of me ...

    if you can get this error to occur again, it would be very helpful to click on the link that i have highlighted in yellow below and see what that shows.

    I'm waiting on one of my users to tell me they get the error so I can get a screen shot. Problem is my users are very busy and stopping everything for this is a lot to ask. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and go back to the previous build I was on. It doesn't have this issue.

      It's messed up - but here's a fix, put client first, build second.

        This happened this morning.
        2017-06-22_7-52-04.jpg

        I tried clicking on the a5-43464889.js file and the browser went out to lunch.
        Are you using 'WaterFox' by any chance. I am going to get her to use chrome to see if it still happens.

        This is in the onChange event, nothing special
        Code:
        if (this.value == 'SALESTAX')
        {
        	{dialog.Object}.setValue('POST_ITEM_ALI',false);
        	{dialog.Object}.setValue('POST_WO_ALI',false);
        }

          Not sure if this is helping but here is another error. Since it is intermittent it must be a timing issue. It does seem to occur more often with more users.

            Never heard of WaterFox. I, and most of my users, use Chrome exclusively.

              WaterFox is a 64 bit variant of FireFox. It works pretty well for us.

                Pete, I think all developers should really stop and really think what your sentence means.
                Your sentence is just piece of gold.

                I also never stop wondering how these developers have time and motive to hunt errors. In long term they just make AA more unstable.

                  Re: What might this JS error be?

                  Mike, are you getting anywhere with this. I have found where I can get a repeatable popup.
                  I have a list
                  One of the fields is a character field [descrip].
                  If I select the setting 'blank is null' in the lists fields properties everytime I try to synchronize the list I get the following popup if the [descrip] character field is blank. If I deselect the setting 'blank is null' I get no popup JS error.
                  My table is set to allow nulls for this field. All of the fields in the list are set 'blank is null' and no other JS popups.
                  This is becoming real annoying. I don't have time to make a test case. Maybe over the 4th holiday.

                    I can't duplicate what you're seeing. Can you post your UX? Without it, it's very hard to tell which of the hundreds of properties may be contributing to the issue.

                    And... in your MySQL Table... what is the default for "descrip"?

                      Re: What might this JS error be?

                      Hi David thank you for helping with this. I am going to try to duplicate the issue in a test case as soon as I get a chance. The default value for descrip is NULL

                      The thing I am not quite understanding is why is there anything to do with 'pendingUpdatesToFileSyatem' non of the lists are using local storage. All of them synchronize after the update. This is a completely connected app.

                        Re: What might this JS error be?

                        No, Frank. Didn't get anywhere with this. In all my years of AA programming I've never had pop-up JavaScript errors. I mentioned this is Alpha but they didn't say anything about it plus they are unable to duplicate it. All I know is that build 4119_4825 doesn't have this problem and the current build does (4119_4825 was the last build I was one before updating to the current one). I'm planning on going back to 4119_4825 soon.

                          Out of curiosity I created a new list (using 4119_4825) using Northwind DB and I too can reproduce this file system popup error. To reproduce this you'll need a new row in the 'Categories' table where 'Description' is NULL. Now go to working preview, click the last row, make a change to 'Categoryname' and save.

                            Mike, following your instructions, under 4119 and 4346, I can't re-produce the error. Is your List field "Description" property "Blank is NULL" checked? In your sample UX it is not.

                            Have you or Frank tried re-installing Alpha?

                            You're both using MySQL? What version?

                              I sent my test case to Selwyn. He found and fixed the bug. I presume the fix will be in the next pre-release.

                              The bug had to do with an issue with the incremental refresh code.

                              David, I don't know why you were not able to reproduce it. I sent the exact same component to Selwyn with the same instructions. Nonetheless its fixed now (and I use SQL Server 2016).
