Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Changing records in a list control

    I have a simple problem but have not been able to find a solution.

    I have a list control that has a detail view. One of the columns in the list control is a logical field (HasBeenChecked) This field is also in the detail view.

    The list contains address that will be visited by the user. I want the user to know if they have selected this record before.
    I want to change the value of the logical field to true when the record in the list is selected.
    I have not been able to change the value from within the onSelect event in the listcontrol.
    What is the best approach to achieve this?

    Do you want a permanent change to the value... something that needs to be synchronized. Or a temporary change that just shows on screen... but will have no effect on the data the next time the List is displayed?

      I would like a permanent change. Once visited, it should be removed from the list of addresses to visit.

        Re: Changing records in a list control

        This works for me in either the onSelect or afterSelect event of the List control... so... up to you where you'd like it.

        Code:
        if(this.selectionData.length > 0){
        	var reverseVal = this.selectionData[0].HasBeenChecked ? false : true;
        	var data =  {ChkTest: reverseVal};
        	this.updateTableRow(this.selectionData[0]['*key'],data);
        }
        The if statement is for when the List is first rendering... we need to check if there's data to work on. There isn't during rendering so we need to skip over the code.

        Once rendered and you select a row, get the reverse of your Checkbox field. The SQL field is HasBeenChecked and mine is a tinyint field type... either 0 or 1. I'm not crazy about bit field types.

        Then set up the JSON for that field, and use the .updateTableRow() method to change the List data.

        Whenever you sync the List and refresh the List data, your List SQL statement, looking only at HasBeenChecked = 0, will now show only those fields not selected.

          Thanks for the reply. I used the code you sent but it had no effect.
          I'm am not familar with some of the calls, such as, reverseVal
          Can you describe whats happening in these two lines of code.

          var reverseVal = this.selectionData[0].HasBeenChecked ? false : true;
          var data = {ChkTest: reverseVal};

          I checked and the HasBeenChecked field is a tinyint BUT most of the columns have a null value.

            I just looked at the list component again and I made a mistake. It doesn't have a detail view, the HasBeenChecked column in the table (and in the list) is databond to a control named BeenChecked.
