Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    windows 10 issue

    I am testing a move to Windows 10 and have an error in my Autoexec script:-

    date()-tbl.Pwdupdated: Argument is incorrect data type.

    This piece of code has been there for many years & been fine with previous versions of windows.

    Is this a bug or does the code need improving?

    Thanks

    Re: windows 10 issue

    I suggest you verify that the table in question was not corrupted by the move to a win 10 machine.

    In the interactive window, after opening the database try

    tbl = table.open("whateverthetablenameis")

    ? tbl.Pwdupdated

    You should then see a date formatted like {07/15/2017}.

    It might be easier just to view the structure for the table in question.

    It is possible to rerun the autoexec from the control panel. You might want to add a debug(1) line to the autoexec somewhere before the tbl = table.open() and step through the script. If it doesn't error when run from the control panel you might have some sort of timing issue.

      What are you doing with this calculation? Are you populating a numeric global variable?

        The equation date()- x would work with x being both a date and a numeric value also. So...

        I'm with Robin, there is not enough info here to diagnoses. date()-tbl.Pwdupdated is not a complete equation. What is the full equation and is it actually a part of the autoexec script text, or is autoexec opening a form with a table that has this equation in a table field rule, or some other possibility, lending to Stan's timing issue?

          Do you run as Admin first time.
          Have you run the compatability check
          Have you put Alpha outside of the Program Files (X86) folder.
          It could be timing, it could be code, but the change to Win10 is the recent factor.

              Doesn't make sense Terry.

              In the Interactive window, run what Stan suggested in post#2
              Look again at the date functions.
              Please explain what you are trying to do and how it worked and what happened in the previous version of windows. It looks like you are testing for a password update date less than 90 days from something.

                Or try this structure in the IW

                dim update as d
                update = "01/01/1900"
                dim yesnno as c
                yesno = ""
                if (date() - update)<90 'CURRENT DATE MINUS UPDATE DATE
                yesnno ="y"
                elseif (date() - update)>90
                yesnno ="n"
                end if

                ?yesnno

                  OK Terry,
                  You answered a part of the question. For this equation to work, the Pwupdated field must be a date field. Is it? Is the code written in the autoexec script? Maybe you might give us a wee bit more of the context of the code, where it is running (autoexec? ) that we might be a little more understanding of what the code is supposed to do but failing..

                        Sorry for delay
                        As stated this code is & has run fine for many years but not in Windows 10. Heres more of the code from "Autoexec":-
                        Code:
                        tbl = table.open("operator")
                        tbl.fetch_first()

                        	IF UT(tbl.operator) = ut(U_Name).and. UT(tbl.Operpassword1) = UT(U_Pass) THEN
                        	'IF UT(tbl.operator) = ut(U_Name) THEN

                        	END IF
                        tbl.fetch_next()

                          "if date() - tbl.Pwupdated < 90 then" is where you believe it's failing.

                          Try

                          If (date () - tbl.Pwupdated)<90 'the difference is the additional parenthesis.

                          Alternatively, make sure date () returns a proper date in the IW
                          ? date ()

                          You may have to set the date to TODAY in a variable and test that in your script.
                          Win 10 is not my favourite by any means, Terry.

                              I am strictly win10 on 3 computers. The last remaining win7 has decided to retire on it's own. Happy to see it go.
                              Plan to replace it with a small linux server on a typical computer. Linux runs faster and with better security out of the box. vm on top of Linux is also faster than windows server.
