Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Password Validation IIS

    Hi All,
It looks like custom expressions for password validation rules do not work w/ IIS so I'm looking for a regular expression to handle the below rules. Any suggestions?

    Re: Password Validation IIS

I don't see your rules in the post but I use the following regular expression: ((?=.*\d)(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z])(?=.*[@#$%&~!();:,.]).{6,20})

This is stringent, it requires at least 1-upper, 1-lower, 1-special character, 1-numeric

I didn't write this, found on internet couple years ago.

      Re: Password Validation IIS

Thanks Steve for your timely response.. The above rules are exactly what i'm looking for. The above code works when i test it in the Password Validation Dialogue Window (see attached).

      SuccessfulTest.JPG

However, after republishing the project... the validation rules are not being enforced when i login as a new user. It seems to only be enforcing the Data Length and other checkboxes for Allowed Characters from the Password Validation Dialogue Window.

        Re: Password Validation IIS

When you say "when i login as a new user" do you mean that user is already registered, with a password already stored? Or do you mean you are trying to register the new user and store a new password? My guess is that if the user is already established in the security tables it will validate against whatever password is already set, and it is only when registering a new user where it will validate for complexity of a to-be-stored password.

          Re: Password Validation IIS

I'm currently using a UX to manage users similar to the setup in videos D_SF_1 to D_SF_5 for the site i'm trying to deploy and i have the option selected to force password change on first use. When I add/save a new user in the UX w/ a faulty pw.. i'm not receiving any error messages and when I login as the new user and i'm prompted to change pw.. I'm not receiving any error messages w/ a newly assigned non-compliant pw. We're also currently in the process of transitioning our alpha licenses to use IIS so I have the ability to test sites that are both configured to use IIS and not use IIS. I tested one of our sites we haven't switched to IIS that uses the standard 'Users and Groups' functionality in the project to manage users and the above code works w/out issue. When I add a new user i'm prompted to comply w/ the pw validation rules and when i login in as the new user.. i'm also prompted to comply w/ the validation rules when forced change pw upon 1st use... Wondering if there are some other considerations to make this work using IIS and my current setup using UX to manage users.

            Re: Password Validation IIS

In exactly the same boat as you. I am migrating an application to IIS and tried to go live this weekend but backed off and decided we needed a Sandbox to run parallel for a week. I will post what I find out about password validation here.
