Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Date not saving when returned by javascript function

    Hi all and thanks in advance.

    My UX has three dates all with a date picker. This is not a list - a UX bound to a data table. I am using a javascript function, linked to a button, to find a specific date and place it in the date fields. The dates appear but when I save the dates are NULL. If I choose from the date picker the dates save fine. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    you need to show the javascript function, you may not send it back as a date to the ux.

      Re: Date not saving when returned by javascript function

      I need to get the first and last entry in their timestamp list for the day. The function counts how many entries are in the list and then takes the first and last one and places them on the UX. The list is read only, no detail section, the UX updates a table directly. I have refreshed my server side afterDialogValidate ExecuteServerSideAction - that is not the issue.

      Here is the function:

      // dep 9/24/17 get the first and last time stamp in the list and populate start and end time for the day
      function getStartEnd() {

      var lObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('TIMESTAMPSTODAY');
      var xData = lObj._data
      var xDLen = xData.length;

      // if no records do not do anything
      if(xDLen <= 1){

      alert('There are no timestamps on this date for you');
      return;
      }

      // Find first and last value in list

      var p = 0;
      var i = xDLen - 1;

      var sTimeStr = xData[p].TCTimeStarted;

      var eTimeStr = xData[i].TCTimeStarted;

      var sTime = new Date();
      var eTime = new Date();

      sTime.fromFormat(sTimeStr,'MM-dd-yyyy 0h:0m am');
      eTime.fromFormat(eTimeStr,'MM-dd-yyyy 0h:0m am');

      var diffTime = eTime - sTime; //milliseconds
      var tSpent = (diffTime / 60000)

      {dialog.object}.setValue('StartTime', sTime);
      {dialog.object}.setValue('EndTime', eTime);

        yes it is ux but still with a list - read only or not.
        since i don't have version 12 i have substituted data entry to mimic but the calculation part is the same look at the video to see how it done:
        https://www.screencast.com/t/wusDXtMZ2vF
        Code:
        var j1 = {dialog.Object}.getValue('D1');
        var j2 = {dialog.Object}.getValue('D2');
        j1 = new Date(j1);
        j2 = new Date(j2);
        {dialog.Object}.setValue('START_TIME',j1.toFormat("MM/dd/yyyy 0h:0m:0s AM") );
        {dialog.Object}.setValue('END_TIME',j2.toFormat("MM/dd/yyyy 0h:0m:0s AM") );
        var time_diff = j2-j1;
        var time_spent = time_diff/(60*1000);
        {dialog.Object}.setValue('TIME_SPENT',time_spent );
        substitute where you get the value from the list for d1 and d2.
        it should work.

          your code if written like this should work

          edit: added missing semicolon

            Re: Date not saving when returned by javascript function

            Darren, you may be able to shift around the work a bit. Understanding how the List Control processes data may help.

            Currently your List Control is processing the dates as Strings. This is why you need to convert to the Strings to Date Objects with .fromFormat(). You then perform a calc using the Date Objects and you're then writing the Date Objects to your Start and End Controls... which is a problem. Using .setValue(), the Date Controls don't really understand the Date Objects. They do when data is coming from the Table... but they don't when using .setValue().

            If you might be using the List Control Dates for anything else, it may be beneficial to have the List Control deal with the Dates as Objects... rather than strings.

            In your List, Fields, TCTimeStarted, change the Transform data type to "ToDate" and change the Date format to "MM/dd/yyyy&&0h:0m AM" (No quotes in either).

            Now when you do this... var sTimeStr = xData[p].TCTimeStarted; your sTimeStr variable will be a Date Object... and you won't have to convert it. You're really just moving the work from the Javascript function to the List... but if you plan on doing anything else... the Date Objects in the List will be ready for you.

            Your Javascript function now only has to worry about sending a String out to the Start and End Date Controls...

            Code:
            var sTimeStr = xData[p].JobTimeStamp;
            var eTimeStr = xData[i].JobTimeStamp;

            var diffTime = eTimeStr - sTimeStr; //milliseconds
            var tSpent = (diffTime / 60000);

            {dialog.object}.setValue('StartTime', sTimeStr.toFormat('MM/dd/yyyy 0h:0m'));
            {dialog.object}.setValue('EndTime', eTimeStr.toFormat('MM/dd/yyyy 0h:0m'));

              Thanks David and Gandhi. I have it working great now.

              Alpha is a great product but the support that comes from this board is what makes it useful.

              I only hope one day I can help others and pass it forward.
