Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Rebuilding Image File Reference data in a Db

The suggested code is not meant to open a directory for selection. It is meant to automatically populate an ifr field based on the value in another field (holding the name of the image).

"Unique ID in the table always matches the photo name in the proto repository"

Since you have multiple image types you would have to manage the process a bit differently.

    For field1 you would use

    filefind.get(path_var+id_value+"_A.*",FILE_FIND_NORMAL,"PN")

    for field2

    filefind.get(path_var+id_value+"_B.*",FILE_FIND_NORMAL,"PN")

    etc.

If you are using ui_get_image_filename() you can force the extension/type with something like

    ui_get_image_filename("C:\*.jpg") or ui_get_image_filename("P:\*.jpeg")

There is a View, Settings, Preferences, Image Fields option to display the Alpha internal image locator dialog (Prompt), where all images in the directory are listed, in place of the usual Windows Explorer style default.

Re: Rebuilding Image File Reference data in a Db

Thanks Stan, I plumbed that in and it shows the file type I am after.
      Last silly question on this.
Can I force the IFR Icon to default to a specific folder and file type?
It is possible that I will get the user to always use JPEG format, so to save extensive coding, can the field icon be forced along a specific path, or do I have to code for all 12 photos?

Edit. Hold up, just re read the last sentence!
That picks up the folder I want but shows all jpg and jpeg files. I suppose the only way is to ensure that only jpeg files are used.

        Ted,
the wildcard system works always. The jpeg and jpg both have jp in common, so if you want both try jp*, or if only jpeg, make that the .jpeg litteral.

          A solution! Whoopie!
Taking all the comments above has allowed me to work towards a solution which works in the application.

The easiest way I found to get the Image Icon to show the selection of JPEG files only in the Windows file picker, was to pre-populate the image field with a .jpeg default image.
Using Paint, I created a .jpeg image as a default. The default folder is selected using the filefind() process.
This default image can be a blank white square, but I have opted to put some text in it.
When user creates a record, the image placeholders show the default image, which in my case says "Empty".

You can still choose PNG, BMP or JPG, but the first choice is JPEG.

So, depending on the client requirements, a default image type could be defined as a variable and changed to suit, thus showing the selection you want in the Windows file picker.
I will be working on the default image folder issue next using all the gratefully received assistance on this thread.
