Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    AppLauncher Error

    I am experimenting with the AppLauncher. I get an error when I try to open it in Live Preview. Even with no settings or various settings, it always throws the error.

    I get the same error... on an older component... and a brand new component. You should report it.

        Selwyn's response, within minutes "ok, thanks. this is fixed. I think this is only an issue in the pre-release build"

        Are there any videos, other than David's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7YUW5Z0DAU , which is awsome, that give more examples or info on implementing AppLauncher?

            Re: AppLauncher Error

            I have implemented AppLauncher, but I am having trouble using {dialog.Object}.logout();. It fails, and returns a message:

            "This method can only be used if the user logged in from the AppLauncher component, or from a UX with intergrated functionality"

            This is running on the Developments Server.

            I am using AppLauncher with "Display Login Form" checked. I have set up two startup components, one for client.isIPad and one for 1=1, which launches a tabbed UI for a Windows client.

            Logging in from either device works just as expected.

            But logging out on either device fails, with the same message.

            From everything I've read, it should log out. Is there a setting I have overlooked?

              {dialog.object}.logout Method

              Syntax
              {dialog.Object}.logout()

              Description
              Logs a user out. The user must have logged in using this UX component (with integrated login functionality turned on), or must have logged in using the AppLauncher component.

              If logged in via AppLauncher, shouldn't {dialog.Object}.logout() work from another UX?

                Re: AppLauncher Error

                Just tested this within a UX launched by the AppLauncher. AppLauncher has the Login form displayed. I log in and my UX is rendered. I have a button on my UX with click event code being {dialog.Object}.logout();. When I click this button I'm logged out and returned to the AppLauncher Login form. The UX security is set for Requires Login

                  Re: AppLauncher Error

                  Well that tells me I must be doing something wrong. Difficult to send a test case with the security features.

                  Maybe I can post a video.

                    Re: AppLauncher Error

                    I started over with a new AppLauncher component, in order to troubleshoot this step by step...

                    I set minimal settings in AppLauncher - one condition that points to a simple test UX - and then embedded it in an AppLauncher.a5w page.

                    I changed my security settings to use AppLauncher.a5w as the login page.

                    I published this to my local Webroot.

                    On the test UX I put a button with {dialog.Object}.logout(); in the onClick event.

                    I found that in Applauncher Properties, checking "Startup component is loaded using a full page reload" will cause the message "This method can only be used if the user logged in from the AppLauncher component, or from a UX with intergrated functionality" to display when {dialog.Object}.logout(); fires. So I disabled that property.

                    Now, once logged in, clicking the button logs out, but does not return to AppLauncher.a5w. However a second click on the same button did return to AppLauncher.a5w.

                    In my earlier AppLauncher I had been setting some session variables, and I want to kill the session variables when logging off. {dialog.Object}.logout(); does not kill session variables.

                    So I made an xbasic function:

                    Code:
                    function logout as c (e as p)
                    	a5ws_logoutuser(session,request,response)
                    	session.reset()
                    	logout = "{dialog.Object}.logout();"
                    end function
                    This kills the session variables, logs the user out, and returns to AppLauncher.a5w. So it does everything I need, but is this the best method? And how would it work in a disconnected app?
