Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ALLOW LOCATION ACCESS "App explanation" How to Edit?

    I have a PhoneGap app that uses the Geolocation plug-in.

    In the iPhone Location settings for the app there is a text description "App explanation...."

    It currently says ""This app requires constant access to your location in order to track your position, even when the screen is off or the app is in the background."

    But the app does not track the location.

    How can I edit that text?

    Re: ALLOW LOCATION ACCESS "App explanation" How to Edit?

    Are you saying that the app is not designed to track locations? Or that the app should be tracking locations but does not?

    Is the issue that the message is inaccurate considering what your app does?

    Have a look at the Alpha Release Notes... http://aadocuments.s3.amazonaws.com/...easeNotes.Html

    Look for this section... "PhoneGap Applications - Usage Descriptions for Plugins"

    You'll need to edit your config.xml file and place an entry into this file for the usage description. The trick is getting the usage description target right. For Geolocation I believe it's...

    Code:
    NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription
    So you'll need something like...

    Code:
    <config-file platform="ios" parent="NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription" mode="replace">
        <string>This app will use Geolocation in the following way...</string>
    </config-file>
    Be specific enough to satisfy Apple... otherwise your app will be rejected.

      Re: ALLOW LOCATION ACCESS "App explanation" How to Edit?

      The app is not designed to track the location.

      "PhoneGap Applications - Usage Descriptions for Plugins" explains how to modify the message that fires the first time the app attempts to use the location services of the device. This is the alert for the user to allow/or deny access. Very cool. I had already set that up and it works.

      But it does not change the text in the settings....

      I've looked at other apps that have customized text there, so it must be possible.

        Ok... thanks... now there's something specific to understand.

        I think there are 3 Usage Descriptions... try one of the others... maybe... NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription

        Code:
        NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription
        NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription
        NSLocationAlwaysUsageDescription

          Re: ALLOW LOCATION ACCESS "App explanation" How to Edit?

          Prior to today I was setting NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription and NSLocationAlwaysUsageDescription.

          I just now added code for NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription - this did the trick.

          For anyone else that runs into this, here is the code to add to the config.xml file. It is apparently a good practice to add all three.

          Code:
          <config-file platform="ios" parent="NSLocationAlwaysUsageDescription" mode="replace">
              <string>Text 1</string>
          </config-file>

          <config-file platform="ios" parent="NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription" mode="replace">
              <string>Test 2</string>
          </config-file>

          <config-file platform="ios" parent="NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription" mode="replace">
              <string>Text 3</string>
          </config-file>

          Thanks David!
