Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Looking for Help Jump starting a Web Project - Security

Quickly, I have developed a fairly complex MS Access/SQL Server application over the years where I work that handles all the day to day business functions for our facility. I purchased Alpha with the intent to build a web based reporting system for our clients to login too and check their data. We do some basic reporting now on the web using ASP but it doesn't cut it. I am looking for a developer to help setup a new web app with user level security tied to the clients data. Basically based on the login we need clients to only be able to see the work orders and inventory associated to their account. To start with it will be a simple list of works orders and then another list of all the inventory associated with those work orders. If anyone is interested let me know.

Getting the security correct is imperative so I am looking for help.

    Thanks

    2 things.
1.) Alpha Security tables: Don't modify the standard alpha security tables to store a related client_id because it will be an issue later on if you decide to migrate to IIS, if your starting off with IIS or AlphaCloud all the better!

2.) Your Database: Because you are going to do reports, and probably filter most queries based on the client_id you will want to make sure that your indexing on those. This setup is similar to most SASS applications. Talking to other SASS owners, we have agreed that there is an exceptional gain in indexing on the most likely query filter of the client_id or in my case "company_id" .

Hope that helps in your quest to build this application! I do not consider myself experienced enough to take on any work outside of the scope of my own but wish you well offering this advice in the spirit of what I do know and hope it has been helpful.

    Good Luck!

You probably have this done already, especially with the guys who have already answered, but I thought I'd share something.

Once you have the security framework setup you need to make sure you have a field which stores the unique id of the customer in the primary database. This would be stored in the "registered users" table (which can be named whatever you want), and is shown in many of the examples which show how to store additional user data when using the Alpha Security Framework.

This may be a username, email, guid, or auto id, and will most likely be different than the user id in the ASF.

Create a custom login page (use the examples that show how to edit user data after registration/login)
Create a panel card in the login page
Create another ux with the list of client stuff (work orders, inventory, etc.)
The list will filter based on an Argument (which is going to be the unique id mentioned earlier)
Embed the clientstuff ux INTO the panel card of the custom login page.
Follow instructions for creating a link between embedded data using the logged in user Argument (there are several examples out there)

The embedded ux will only show the records tied to the logged in user.

Just wanted to give a high level overview in case others see this. It's easy to setup once you know how to do it of course. Good luck!
