Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Developers using Alpha Anywhere V12 in Australia

    Hey guys

Looking for other developers that use Alpha Anywhere V12 in Australia especially would love to know if anyone else is in Perth WA too.

I am experienced developer and have been using the alpha product for years just like to reach out and meet some of Alpha's Fellow developers in Australia.

Sorry for others not in the Australia just on the search for a network on the relatively same time frame as I

    Alex,

I forwarded your message to a developer I met at the DevCon who I think lives in Australia. I understand the need to know there are other developers in your area. :)

Hi Alex, Peter and other Aussie Developers

I am in Australia too (Geelong, VIC) and would also be interested in keeping in touch with other Aussie Alpha Developers. I get the sense there is not a lot of us down under and sometimes it would be great to be able to have contact with others in a similar time zone.

How about we connect using a Facebook group and see if we can round up a few more Aussies.

                  Hi Steve

From a collaboration and community prospective, I would be very interested in an Australian based IADN group, though from a seeking work prospective, I am not personally interested. Ultimately I am seeking to do less work directly for other businesses and focusing on SaaS applications, ideally with a small group of other entrepreneurs including at least one other Alpha Developer. I would be happy to help drive the development of a group in Australia and I am also happy to provide training and mentoring to newer developers.

Another area I would like to explore is working with American developers that have successful SaaS applications in the US market and bringing those to the Australian market, which will typically require some redevelopment and localization in addition to having people on the ground in Australia to support and market the applications.

                  Cheers

                  Jason

Re: Developers using Alpha Anywhere V12 in Australia

I have scheduled an open-agenda webinar meeting at a good meeting time for the Australia / New Zealand and USA (around midnight for Europe). It is Thursday, April 19th at 9:00 AM Sydney time (AEST).

Scheduling an event that covers two hemispheres gets confusing, so I have listed the meeting time for several timezones below.

Let's use this meeting to bring developers together and talk about what is needed on a local basis for building your business. Also, please spread the word because not everyone visits this Forum on a regular basis.

Please register or get more information here.

(The meeting time below has been edited since original posting.)

                    * Wednesday, April 18th at 5:00 PM Pacific Coast Time (PDT)
                    * Wednesday, April 18th at 8:00 PM East Coast Time (EDT)
                    * Thursday, April 19th at 1:00 AM London Time (BST)
                    * Thursday, April 19th at 8:00 AM Perth/Manila Time (AUD/PHP)
                    * Thursday, April 19th at 10:00 AM Sydney Time (AEST)
                    * Thursday, April 19th at Noon Auckland Time (NZST)

Re: Developers using Alpha Anywhere V12 in Australia

                      Hi Peter,

I live in Melbourne too. I am a Business Intelligence Solution Designer/Developer with pretty long (25 years) practical experience working in large (like NAB - 14 years) , medium and small organisations. Recently I made a decision to dedicate some time learning Alpha Anywhere to develop mobile applications driven by SQL Server I have in Azure cloud. I have downloaded and installed a Alpha 12 trial version few days ago and trying to rapidly go through the evaluation utilising my and Access/VBA skills for UX design and SQL Server T-SQL for the database back end. Alpha's license cost is pretty high, so before I move into license purchase I would be interested in getting a feedback from experienced Alpha users like yourself while I using trial version. So far I have managed to go through couple of tutorials and connected my trial version to Azure based SQL Server. I would really appreciate if I could get some feedback from you.

                      Regards

                          Alex,

Thanks for the invitation. My name is Olaf Schubert who has been developing systems since 1974 so I am a bit of an antique in this business. I am attempting to come to grips with using Alpha for a project at Newdegate in the wheat belt. I need some hand holding and am looking for someone like yourself to mentor me (paid) in the right direction. Happy to make arrangements to come and see you in Perth. Contact me on 0418 111 309. Many Thanks Olaf
