Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

From everything I've seen so far, it looks less powerful than A12. It appears they're going for the same crowd that use Caspio, Quickbase, Zoho, etc.

I did see it at the DevCon - Try it.. My View, while its clever, the spiel is an over reach I'd view it as for those who don't know what they are doing when building questionnaires or surveys, can't see anything for real development, but it could one day play a role in component assembly. Hopefully that happens, Dan is a very smart guy so who knows.

My thoughts is that its a product i can just sell to a business that i am developing for. They create forms. They use it. I consult if need too. No different to them using a something like Type form. but the benefit of of transform is of course our ability to get into its data / control it via its API in AAV12. rather then importing a SDK and having to write a lot of boiler plate code.

            Re: Alpha Transform

We have had a look, working and playing with Transform.

I think it is very clever if you use a lot of one-off forms. Transform does nothing that you cannot do yourself in Alpha.
With one major caveat Transform is quick.

A young lad who is 3 months into training can build and publish a relatively complex form in 20 minutes.

Where are you guys finding a trial to download? The only info Alpha gives me involves buying a license for it.

I agree Michael, but if Alpha handle the integration into AA and get the database connectivity clear it could greatly enhance the overall productivity of AA in the right hands.

This looks like it would be a simple way to get mobile connectivity to a desktop app. But I doubt it will work with dbf files... unless it incorporates Excel or another 3rd party tool.

The TransForm API allows you to perform tasks in the TransForm service. Almost all tasks that can be performed in the TransForm service through the various TransForm user interfaces (i.e. Form Designer, Permissions, Management Console, Form Filler) can also be performed using the API.

                          Re: Alpha Transform

I was told via phone by an Alpha sales rep on 01/09/2018, the following:

minimum 5 person subscription @ $45/mo/user ($2700/year). I believe that you need a current subscription to Alpha Anywhere, also. So Transform is an add-on, not a separate product. Since I only need 1 copy this was a non-starter for me. Other questions that I would have asked if a single user version was available: 1. Does this include a form library with templates for forms, and if so, what kind and how many? 2. Will forms developed while Transform is active continue to work if subscription expires?

This is just my sample of 1, so best to check pricing with Alpha Software directly.

                            Apparently not...
The TransForm service has no dependence on Alpha Anywhere. You can use TransForm without having to also use Alpha Anywhere and without having to have an Alpha Anywhere license. However, there are several helper functions and features in Alpha Anywhere that are designed to make working with TransForm easier.
