Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Here is a function to get the column names.
      https://www.screencast.com/t/AcbNINWa8
      Code:
      function GetHeaders as c (e as p)

      	dim txt as c = ""
      	colNum = e.tmpl.field_info.size()

      	for i = 1 to colNum
                txt = txt + e.tmpl.field_info[i].BaseFieldExpression + crlf()
          next

      GetHeaders = "alert('Column Names:\n" + js_escape(txt) + "');"

      end function

        We have about 30 editable "work week" columns visible in the grid but have a lot more in the underlying table. I have attached an image to give you a better idea of the use case for this feature.

        2018-02-07_21-34-46_TCT_Columns.png

        The forecast columns are named like this:

        Fcst_2017_50_Dec15
        Fcst_2017_51_Dec22
        Fcst_2017_52_Dec29
        Fcst_2018_01_Jan05
        Fcst_2018_02_Jan12
        Fcst_2018_03_Jan19
        Fcst_2018_04_Jan26
        Fcst_2018_05_Feb02

        There is a pattern to them. They are incremental Friday dates.

        Imagine a I right click in a cell for work week 2017_51 and through a dialog tell it to distribute 100 hours over the next 5 weeks. I need Alpha to know what cell I'm currently in and you have already figured that out. Now I need to be able to loop 5 times and put data in the current cell and the next 4. How can I increment through the columns in the grid and set a value. I'm looking for an x, y method to set a value in the grid. {grid.object}.setValue() will let me pass a row number but it does not allow a column number to be passed.

        I want to address the columns in an n+1 fashion. How can it be done?

          If you use that GetHeaders function it will give you the total number of columns and all of the column names.

            But is there a way to address the columns by their index position? I want to have a loop fill in the next n columns.

              Get Column Names & Numbers with an Array. Fill the column fields with an Array.

              https://www.screencast.com/t/NnPyT6MOEq

              Code:
              var n = window.PasteValues
              var x = n / 3;
              var y =  x.toFixed(2);

              var vtxt = {grid.Object}.getSessionVariable('vtxt');
              var va = new Array();
              va = vtxt.split(",");
              var vlen = va.length;
              vlen--;
              var vColumnNum = va.indexOf(window.ColumnName);
              var vNumOfCols = 3
              var vLastCol = vColumnNum + vNumOfCols + 1

              for (var i = 0; i < vlen; i++) {
                       vnum = [i];
                       valert = va[i];

                       if(vnum == 6 || vnum == 7 || vnum == 8){
                       {grid.object}.setValue('G',valert,window.vSRow,'');
                       }

                      if(vnum > vColumnNum && vnum < vLastCol){
                      {grid.object}.setValue('G',valert,window.vSRow,y);
               }
              }

                Re: Right Click Menu

                I like the array technique. It's what I am looking for. I appreciate seeing the video demonstration. Thank you. Like you suggested, I'd like to break this down into a function so I can pass any value for the number of columns, and possibly a variable for the number of rows. I may want the feature to do the same over multiple consecutive rows. I think that is easy since rows are addressable by number.

                While the right-click menu is slick looking, I think I'm going to have too need a dialog to appear so a user can select from various options.
                1. Copy hours to the next w weeks.
                  Copy 40 hours to the next 51 weeks.
                2. Distribute t hours at x hours per week.
                  100 hours at 16 hours per week gives 16 hr/wk for 6 weeks and 7th week has 4 hours. Useful when a resource has limited availability.
                3. Distribute t hours over the next w weeks.
                  100 hours over next 7 weeks gives 15 hr/wk for 6 weeks and the 7th week has 5 hours. Useful with fixed budget.
                4. Slide hours +/- w weeks.
                  Move hours across work weeks for project schedule changes.

                Depending on what option the user picks, the value that is already in the cell that was right-clicked will appear as a default in a field on the dialog.

                I need to mock up something when I get some free time.
